This "tax the rich" mantra bores me, it smacks of another große Lüge Thinking

Could someone point me at an economic analysis that irrefutably proves "tax the rich" always nets more receipts for HMRC? The Orangutan cut taxes when he got in and apparently government income went up.

I'd hazard that inflation is much more important at this point as effectively it's a tax on everyone and everything.

It's not calls to increase tax for higher incomes that's the story though is it. Its the entirely specious cutting of higher rate and corporate tax on some completely speculative idea such cuts will boost growth that's the issue. There's no convincing calculation of how, when and to what degree the policy would actually bear fruit.
I don't think anyone thinks for one moment that Truss and Kwarting have done it for genuine economic reasons, more likely just for political reasons and personal gain. The golden handshake onto that hedge fund board awaits them both for sure.

Basically they know they will lose the next election and are just building up their trust fund.

How many percentage points behind were they before this shitshow?

Tories turning their backs on their Leftist roots by cutting taxes, oh the horror! What next? Bring back grammar schools?! Laughing

They've had a massive majority for years and did fuck all with it and they choose now when the country's having a right wobble to do this... gamble?

I think there is a case to say the Tories feel so secure that they no longer have to develop any real talent. Hence the rise of the current crop of front benchers.

Gamble? Not at all im sure it's all been properly worked out and all our wages will rise, our bills will fall and our jobs will be secure, there will be no more SJW crap as social issues will be a thing of the past. Christmas is going to be lush.

Mmmm, one does wonder who's advising them - the latter day Dominic Cummings - who does Truss trust? Fiddling with the top rate of tax in any way would draw cry criticism from the Opposition but the markets are less easily ignored. Apparently even though the US economy is in shambles with a leader so addled he forget someone died they're still a better bet that the UK or even the EU Shocked

FFS, now the chancellor is suggesting that benefits won't rise in line with inflation.

Proper reverse Robin Hood stuff now.

Cut the benefits so the deadwood in society starves. Sounds like the Green future that was predicted - too many people on the planet and all that - or could it be a return to "The Nasty Party?" So easy to confuse the extremes in politics considering the outcomes are the same Rolling Eyes

Tut Tut

Come on now, you know Nobby peddles ideology and doesn't answer questions Laughing

Although quite what all this political stuff has to do with the monarchy is beyond me.

In the column "for" Monarchy: tradition, pomp & ceremony, international diplomacy, tourism. And in the "against" column: not democratic.

Not stacking up well IMO.

But we have democracy, a Parliamentary one. When was the last time the monarchy overruled the wishes of the electorate as expressed through Parliament?

Wish he would at the moment. Stick the whole lot in the tower and have an Autumn Public Beheading Bankholiday. To keep it democratic we could vote who gets the haircut first. Dance!

Kwasi wrote:
In Darlington, Mr Kwarteng said the government remained "absolutely committed" to maintaining the pensions triple lock.

It ensures that payments rise in line with September's headline rate of inflation, the growth in average earnings, or 2.5% - whichever is the highest.

But he said it would be "premature" to decide whether benefits would rise next April in line with the current inflation rate.

Tradition. Any tradition has to start somewhere so no reason why a full democracy cannot become our tradition.

Pomp and Ceremony. 'murica manages it without having an inherited clothes horse wheeled out.

International diplomacy. The Royals dont engage in diplomacy, unless you count bags of cash from Arabs or trips in jet set peados leerjets.

Tourism. Tourists will turn up for dead people just as much as live ones. If the tourism value is that good then why isn't Queenie in a glass tomb? Imagine the receipts on that show. Anyway with the actual family out of the way the country could really squeeze those royal palaces and estates for much doller (make sure thats real dollers given the current situation).
