https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qDx5VFB2m2Q
"1972 Bristol 411 - The Ubercool Alternative to a Jaguar XJ-C" by JayEmm on Cars.(driving starts from 5:40)

According to video
It was around £40,000, now £125,000.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
When I was a kid I was given a thick small car book. I still remenber there were two cool looking British cars with four round head lights. One was Jensen Interceptor(or FF), the other was Bristol 411(series 4-).
I could find Driving video of Jensen easily cause it was reviewed in Jay Leno's garage or Harry's garage too. But I couldn't find Bristol 411 video being driven. But luckily I found this vid yesterday.
-----
Bristol is such a mysterious brand for me, it's so rare here.
I googled about Bristol, watched several videos and found
-It went defunct in 2020
-There was only one dealer in Kensington High St. in London but it's now Indian motorcycle dealer(according to street view).
-It didn't try to sell many cars, it sold to rich customers (who preferred not to be seen rich like having Rollsroyce or something), and kept deep connection with such customer for a long time range(like inviting for dinner each other).
-Bristol cars are hand built.
-It had BMW derived 2 litre 6 cylinder motor and switched to Chrysler V8 motor from 407.
-They made Bristol Fighter(small coupe with dodge V10)
-New investor is trying to make a new electric car(Buccaneer GT)
-----
Only one Bristol in Japan(owned by car critic, now in museum)

When I was very young <10 yrs my Dad took my brother and me to London I wasn't sure whey but we went to look at some Bristol cars
presumably at the Kensington premises. I can only recall being in a largish shed storage place (not a showroom) where a few where kept I guess also the one my old man wanted.

I presume at this point (almost 50 years) ago they would have been very cheap comparatively and niche which would have appealed to my old man.

My abiding memory however is that the chap Dad was speaking ( a salesman possibly 50 plus)to let go a quite loud fart as he was talking and carried on without flinching or any excuse mes.

Funny the things that stick with you.

This was back in the days when old cars were just old cars, not 'classics'.

Bristols were always niche, but not cheap new - they made their reputation by building heavily on the aerospace connection, with quirky features and the general handbuilt feel, but their values dropped like stones on the secondhand market, partly because niche can also mean hard to shift, but also because not everyone can afford to run a car that struggles to get more than 20mpg, particularly in the build up to and aftermath of the 1973 fuel crisis.

I've driven and looked after few in my time and while they do have a certain presence and kerb appeal, I would go for the similarly powered Jensen Interceptor every time.

Quite so,, IIRC he went on to buy 2 x 1960s) Giullietta Sprints one LHD (good) and one RHD (bad) with the plan to merge the two. It never happened - he was always working.. The Giullietta were sold (value now stratospheric) to fund a Ginetta GI5 car for hill climbs and sprints..

I thought if I post one YT link I won't be able to know about that(what you think of it). but it was too much and push over of mine. Sorry about that. I'll be careful.

Can't see that you have done anything wrong, no apology needed.
All I know is that a neighbour of ours when I was a kid had a Jensen Interceptor and I thought it looked kinda cool.

As chickenstrip said, no need to apologise, you never find out anything unless you ask.

The later Bristols are quite interesting cars and you're right in what you say, they appealed to the type of person that wanted the hand built nature of something like a Rolls, but without shouting to everyone "look at me", which is maybe where they went wrong.

The thing is, generally the kind of people that pay that sort of money for a car are trying to make a statement and with a Bristol, it's a bit hard to say what that statement is - they aren't especially well styled, they have quite bit of competition in the American V8 powered GT car stakes and they didn't really innovate.

What you can say about them is that they were rare, which makes them different and that is what some people want, but ultimately not enough people to sustain a business.

You already know about Jensen, but other interesting British cars you might want to look at are Gilburn and Gordon-Keeble.

Auld Motors:

There was one of these parked on the street I walked along coming home from school at lunchtime. I knew Hee-Haw about cars when I was 5 but I liked this car.

A Bristol would be a feckin money pit
Interesting, but not interesting enough for me to throw money at
even if I did have the dosh.
Only the anoraks would know what it was and you dont want
that sort drooling and dropping their dandruff all over it.

If I had money to burn and wanted swank and style
I'd mebbe consider a Citroen DS
