Ive just paid the deposit on a wonderfully clean suzuki bandit 600. Im taking my practical test next wednesday and the bikes being restricted on the following weekend. My question is, how will the badit perform being only 33bhp? Will it struggle to run or will it still be a suitable ride for me until my license becomes clear of any power restricions?

Hope all this makes sense

I'm thinking about getting a bandit/hornet soon which'd have to be restricted... as far as power through the rev range, I'd imagine it stops pulling fairly low since there's quite a lot of hp being lopped off the top, is that the case?

Good luck with your test Belcher, it'd sting having that waiting in your garage. Neutral

Nice, look forward to hearing how it runs with the restriction. The 400 seemed a better option at first but from what I've read they're not up to much, plus parts etc would be difficult.

Right well ive passed my test and have put about 50 miles on the restricted bandit now. It'll do around 95 mph, revs to around 8000 rpm and the bottom and mid range seem pretty good, still got a nice accelleration. Only problem so far that ive noticed is that it takes a long time to warm the bike up and get it idling properly due to the restricted air flow.

Thats interesting, revs to 8K? so they've cut it off pretty much at the start of the power band?

So its been restricted by being starved of air and reduced fuel flow too? If they've reduced the air intake then the fuel has to have been reduced too else it would run rich? That raises an interesting point, if the above is true then of course it will run cooler! I wonder how well it will do in the winter?

Hi

Most bikes are restricted with a couple of washers after the carbs. The effect of this is exactly like stopping the throttle opening fully. With a CV carb the mixture is largely decided by the vacuum operated slide in the carb, so with less airflow this will not open as far.

All the best

Keith
