UK Democracy.

Major players elected into power by their party.

Have the audacity to criticise cuntries such as, Norf Kohreeah, China and Russia.

I would suggest governance of country has evolved out of "what can we get away with without triggering a bloody revolution?" We do it via manipulation of the electorate, North Korea does it just the same... 'cept with more guns Smile

How could it be any other way. Far to many people to actually reason with in the modern world Thinking

I was reading an account of how petrified the elite were in England in the early 1800's that the plebs would turn on them like the French people did to the aristocrats in the French revolution during the 1790's.

An interesting point he made was that the wars with Napoleon allowed them to curtail freedoms under the auspices of the war effort and patriotism that wouldn't have been tolerated otherwise. Perhaps we can blame Napoleon for not being a republic now.

Or more likely even then, same as now, the majority can't be arsed to have a riot let alone a revolution. Laughing

A major difference between us plebs and plebs in 1800 is that we aren't starving...

Very true, but the French have always been more anti authority than us.

I’ve read that we can’t afford to feed our kids or heat our homes, so it must be true.

In a general election you vote for a political party, not the leader.

No, you vote for an mp who represents your constituency. The leader of the majority party becomes pm.

That's what should happen but in reality it's "I'm labour, I've always been labour!" and then...

What are you voting for now? Certainly not local politics Neutral

I’d be surprised if many voters could name their local MP, instead they’ll vote for the party with policies they support knowing that the MP will be whipped anyway.

This is something important.

But it has the same attention paid to it as personal health.

I would guess that most people only think about health when something in their health changes.
Most of their 'healthy lifestyle' will be sort of automated/what they buy from the supermarkets and the activity involving work.

Politics is probably the same. We can live for a long time without thinking about politics or what our carefully elected representatives are doing or not doing.

Everyone bleats about the government but probably no one goes to politicians surgeries/town hall meetings.

So we probably only have our selves to blame.

Trends in MPs’ professions since 1979 -

Barristers down from 45% to 31%

Manual workers down from 16% to 3%

Misc. (white collar workers, union officials, public relations, charity/voluntary) up from 17% to 30%

Politicians/political organisers up from 3% to 17%

page 24.

I guess that list truly reflects modern Britain, with a decline in manufacturing and more finance/services. I’m just not sure the current crop have the wider experience or the nous to make good judgements. There’s also too many of them.
