Blair and Brown were attracted to the neo-lib fiscal policies because they helped make the party look pro business because the right despite having worked hard to shut down manufacturing industry did a good job of making labour look anti business. They (Thatch and co) had great help from the likes of Scargill of course and a Labour party headed by Michael Foot who just looked like a nieve old ideologue.

Im not sure what you mean there. Do you mean populism? When parties try and chase simplistic need serving policy? I don't think you can really say there's a single point where things went wrong. Certainly though somehow after a twentieth century where generalized affluence was becoming a reality we seem to be heading in the opposite direction. Disturbing if like I do we see this turnaround as being engineered rather than an accident of history.

The only reason why the tories got into power post 2008 is because the Libs wre seduced by power.

Labour had the most votes in that election but because it was a hung parliament the libs were needed to get a majority and it turns out that they are cunts and forwent some of their manafesto stuff to have a seat at the table.

Cunts.

Partly. Populism can easily transform into majority oppression (e.g. Hitler's Germany, California today) and manipulation of public opinion allows for all sorts of heinous actions - "in a survey 72% of respondents said yes, we should sacrifice the first born to the Altar of Blood."

Serving the country is more "make Britain great again and it's inhabitants will naturally inherit that greatness" something a bit more noble and idealistic. A concept now ruined by a certain orange primate Sad

The fact that we are asking if they gone bonkers or not shows the state this country is in.......alternative reality/media parallel universe etc.

Unless you are the very few (I highly doubt it) that will benefit from their mishaps then we should reject their mini (not a) budget /trickle-down economy or let us wait and see where this new adventure takes us Shocked

FTFY Wink

And the answer is we must be doing great! Bear in mind Val only posts topics to denigrate the UK because he's paid to because he hates that its inhabitants voted for freedom over tyranny.

If you look around Europe at the moment, you'll see that no one is doing terribly well right now. But that's not surprising since politicians around the world appear to have something against competence, and have become rather too attached to stupidity.

Obviously the irony is lost on you with that picture, because Scotland voted against Brexshit and will chose freedom against tyranny next year with independence.

But hey do not let facts or mortgage rates ruin your angry gammon delusions Laughing

That's very racist of you Val, using skin colour as a demographic of insulting people. I wonder what would be said if I said anything dispariging about darker hued people and Bulgarians. Gagged

Anyway, Scotland would never be allowed in the EU as long as Spain have a veto. They won't want Catalonia getting too big for their britches would they.

The claim is somewhat misleading. The Bank of England pledged to buy gilts to the tune of a maximum of £5 billion a day, over two weeks, to assure markets. This means the maximum possible spend was £65 billion, though the actual number will be far smaller. In reality the bank has purchased around £3.66 billion so far, with yesterday’s purchases coming in at just £22 million. The smaller purchase signals the Bank is comfortable with the current state of gilt markets as its credible commitment appears to have paid off. Guido appreciates that the BBC this time took the effort to get the facts right…

Shadow Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who should know better as an ex-Bank of England employee, repeated the same line: “The fact the Bank of England had to step in with a £65 billion bailout with taxpayers money is deeply shameful.” It is not a fact.

George Monbiot puts a good case for my position on the matter. https://youtu.be/pofTr1QKiBk

People really need to get their heads around Neo liberalism and how its reordering society in the interests of the needs ultra rich at the expense of all of us whether your to the left or right.

The Think Tanks idea might be the Globalist version of the "money-laundering" of bad ideas also found in MSM and academia Thinking

Anyhoo, you might like this one from Triggernometry:

"The System is Rigged Against the Poor" - Darren McGarvey

In some ways a long form of George's observations but with the more convincing timbre only available from an angry Scottish ex-drug addict Smile The revelation: people on the Left that are not enamoured by the Intersectional bollox actually have some good ideas on how society might be improved; there may be some hope for the world!

‘Twas ever thus, and those miserable gits are just reciting left-wing tropes.

McGarvey calls politicians ‘aliens’ in the first 20 seconds, and Monbiot’s sci-fi skulls steer you down the same path. But hey, no… those are all your own thoughts.

Infamy!…. Etc.

Forget politics for a moment let's deal in absolute truth.

Since WWII everybody was getting richer. The rich, the middle classes, the poor (ironically) - everyone. The greatest quality of life increase in world history in the shortest time. Until the '80s when the divergence started.

Back then the rich just got richer a bit faster than everyone else. The first crash in the '80s everyone got poorer. The second crash in the '90s everyone fucked except the rich, same with the 2008 crash. But the last decade? Phew! Things have accelerated: the richer are getting sooo much richer at the explicit expensive of everyone else.

"Yeah it's all the fault of..."

https://cdn2.mhpbooks.com/2014/07/shush.jpg

Don't care. That's opinion and this is tangible. "Then how do we fix it?" Don't know. I don't need to know the workings of a record player to tell you it's broken. I do know a bit of chemistry though and I can tell you runaway processes never end well Shocked
