Lexmoto Assault 125 - Electrical/lights Issues

Afternoon all,

We bought this for my son for a cheap run-around and generally it's not a bad bike appart from a couple of electrical gremlins with the lights.

With the bike running on the back light doesn't come on. Both rear and front break lights it up though. Bulb would be the first choice but that's OK. If we turn the ignition to 'Park'. The rear light comes on. So it does work.

The light switching doesn't make any difference to the front or rear lights at all. When the bike is running the main headlight beam is on no matter what I do with the switches. The switch should allow me to go between main beam, side lights and off.

High beam switch does what it's supposed to though.

I've had the switching gear to bits but that all checks out fine. I'm now in the process of taking the front end off to see if I can find a bad earth or something.

Went like this.. 43 years old(2013) decided to do CBT to get a 125 for new job. Bought 2011 YBR, loved it for three months then hated it because it was too god damn slow. Did DAS 4 months later then bought RF600 Loved it, sold it bought Bandit 1200(K3). EFFIN lOVED IT. Wanted something a bit more sporty so got Triumph Sprint ST 955i (53). Not sporty enough so now on my GSXR 1000 K3 and absolutely love it. 1 year down the line, nearly died way too many times on this bike. Sold it. Had a 6 month break. Missed biking so now, Aug 2019 have a 1999 ZX9r. What a beauty she is too.

Has anyone been fucking around with the wiring? You may have to remove panels to see.

Yeh that's kinda where I'm at now. Removing bits. It all worked when we got it so something must have come lose since.

In that case has your son been fucking with it?

If the switch was working ebfore, and isn't now but the front light is coming on when it should be switched, someone has been fucking with the wiring.

If the switch was working when you got it but it isn't now, the fuckery happened after you got it.

Further explanation of the wiring.

The P position on the ignition is essentially seperate connections to the parking light and the rear than the main light switch.

On the main light switch, there will be three wires. One hot feed from the igintion that supplies power. One for parking light/rear, one for main.

in parking light position the parking light/rear wire is connected. iin main position all three wires are connected.

Hazarding a guess I would say the power wire has been connected directly to the main, probably where the switch gear is plugged in to the loom.

The mention of CDI probably implies it's for a carb bike but the Chinese aren't particularly imaginative so the wiring colours for the lighting are probably the same.

So, from that diagram....

First off, the lighting switch is showing the lighting to light the rear lamp, dash and parking light as being connected in the 'off' position....

Okay, after checking....

I would follow the wiring cluster down from the rhs switch to the loom and look for damage to the brown wire and it's connections.

This is the only connection that would cause all your problems.

Edit: and the same colour wire up to the ignition.

It as something to do with the switch gear on the right hand side. I ordered a new one just as a process of elimination. Only cost me £25 and fek me it worked. Sorted all the lighting issues instantly.

Mind you, the after market part build quality is 10 times worse than the orrigional. I don't expect it to last that long.

Selling the bike now though.
