Quad bike - diesel instead of petrol..

A friend has stuck diesel in his quad bike instead of petrol. It’s barely running / not running at all. Am I right in thinking fuel tank off, drain fuel system / carb and flush through with petrol and we should be ok?
Any hints please?

Should be, seen it done with bikes a few times and they lived to tell the tale.

Not sure about the fuel pump, some car ones have o-ring seals that get damaged by the wrong fuel. More often the other way though (ie petrol through a diesel pump). Also if it's new enough to have fuel injection and exhaust gas sensors, you can yak up the sensor causing a fault code.

Maybe clean the plug, I bet it's pretty sooty by now.

Diesel engines are too heavy to put in a bike or a quad.

And their acceleration characteristics are not enviable.

I would have thought the power delivery of a diesel would be ideal for a "working" quad, towing trailers up still inclines etc...?

Fuel tank removed and thoroughly drained, then washed out with unleaded. Drain for carb loosened and emptied, then left open until empty. Tank filled and fresh petrol allowed to fill the system until proved from the carb drain.
Jump leads bodged from a electric light wire and jump started from aHonda Civic. Sorted!

I’m definitely not an ‘urban quad bike rider’ - it’s used for farm tasks, no more, no less. I would be lying if I said I hAted riding it though, in small doses at least!
