So looking at my tyres I can see im due a new set. Got an MOT at the end of the month as well so thought I would order some new ones in.

JESUS FUCKING CHRIST!

I know the UK is in a right state. BUT WTF? Tyres have doubled in price!

Can anyone recommend a cheap and cheerful (safe) set of simple tyres for the er6f?

How much is too much?
Michelin road 4 or Bridgestone t30s are both 'older' and therefore a good deal. Compared to tyres from years ago they'll probably do twice the miles also.

I was meaning what brand, specific model and specific sizes you got a quote for.

Tell us the price as well if you want to increase the chances of us finding you a better deal.

Ahh Well not really bothered about brand, like I say anything thats legal and safe to keep me going a few more months.

But checking Mytyres im seeing cheapest sets being about £233 which is insane.

as for sizes...

120/70 front mytyres says 160/60 on the back but I seem to remember it being 170 or 180... id have to take a look but its in the garage at the moment.

We run z650s on Avon storm 3d (120/70/17f and 160/60/17r)
Mrs ran Pirelli angels on her 2012 er6n. No issues with either

Top tip from me - if you're going to use one of the cheap online suppliers based in Europe (like www.moto-tyres.co.uk), make sure you order in PLENTY of time now (NOTHING to do with Brexit obvs). Took my last order nearly 3 weeks to arrive and as I was heading off on tour to Europe before they came I ended up having to order a second pair from a UK supplier as well Evil or Very Mad

Angel st pair coming in around 170 on black circles. Add in 15 per wheel for fitment, 200 all in. Not bad.

I've noticed there's a wide range of prices for more or less same tyre(s).
More so than in the past maybe.
Could be bigger difference than previously to restock?

Damn! The mot is due at the end of the month. And I'm pretty certain my front tyre won't pass...

Could have a look see if any local dealers have some half decent part worn tyres?

Not needed new tyres for a while.

I just priced som enew rubber for the S1000RR.

Last time a set of tyres from Tyre Leader.
June 2015
Metzeler Sportec M7 RR 120/70 ZR17 58W Euro 76.89
Metzeler Sportec M7 RR 190/55 ZR17 75W Euro 118.89

The equivalent (New Model 'M9') today's price from the same retailer:

Metzeler Sportec M9 RR 120/70 ZR17 58W Euro 76.89
Metzeler Sportec M9 RR 190/55 ZR17 75W Euro 185.18

Feckin' bastirts...

It will be Poo Tin's War in Ukraine and The Rona Event related.

Plus many kunts monopolising the situations.

Tyre Leader aye seem to be the cheapest.

I haven't ordered from them since the Brexit split. Some eu Kuntries stopped shipping to UK as customs phaphery is not worth the hassle too.

I will order now before it's too late.

UK Motorcylce tyre law:
Min 1mm tread all around the tyre and must be in a continuous 'band' min 75% of the tyres surface.
And visible tread elsewhere.
No cuts or visble damage to sidewalls.
Tyre age 10 years will attract adverse attention from an inspector.
Worn tyre will/may show as advisory if worn to 2mm >

It's already too late sadly - Tyreleader were my go-to as well, but they don't do bike tyres any more

demon tweeks Pirelli Diablo Motorcycle Tyre Package - £155 for a set for 120 / 180s

they will do 5k - i actually got 7k on them but the last 500 miles were pure hell but hey

they're great in the damp/wet - they're good in the dry - i'm not a massive fan of the profile and prefer b-stone t30s....which are twice the price, so guess which i run

a ton fifty five for a set - and they're pretty decent.

Ohh thats a good catch. Thanks. Ive actually had those before on this bike, like 2 sets ago. I do remember how when they were worn down they REALLY loved to fall and pull you into any contour of the road, or bump or worn out edge of the road... but they were good otherwise Very Happy

Im gonna call my local guy where im getting the MOT done first tomorrow, just in case hes got something cheap in stock. If not ill order some tomorrow.
Thanks again

They do, it's just not got a clicky to get to bike tyres.

On that note.. there might be 1MM of tread even on the test bump zones. But there appears to be cracks forming along the inside of the tread running along the tread walls. Theres also a few nasty gashes on the surface, probably from stones, so almost certainly a failure.

Probably goes without saying but the legal minimums are not a recommendation.

My limit is when the tread gets to 2mm. More fun/safety on good tread.

Tyre leader are miles (Kilometres) more expensive than Demon Twits.

As I said, my preferred tyre for my zx9r is the b-stone t30s - they suit the bike very well, somehow. However, one way that the Pirellis are better is in regards to how the front tyre wears. The t30 fronts chamfer on the off-side (presumably because of camber - I ride a lot of unmarked unclassifieds and narrow b-roads). The tyre can still look okay, but my god the bike hates it. Meanwhile, the rear has another thou or two left on it. I'm really not used to fronts wearing out before rears.

But the Pirellis are different again - the fronts seems to keep good shape for a lot longer, and in fact it;s the rears that fail.

I keep wondering what the t31s are like - i will try em, but i just fitted a pair of t30s that a mate sold me for £120. Amazing price. He flogged his RT and had them in his garage doing nowt.
