The guy with the YBR bought a new front tyre and took the front wheel and tyre
away to his usual, in town, scooty shop to have it fitted.
The mechanic fitted it then had to refit it because he had the direction of
rotation wrong and charged double after swapping it over.
(The owner rang me during this to ask which side his disc was on to establish
the direction of rotation)

So, £30 instead of £15, not a happy bunny
hard done by ?

I'll admit to bias, cos I reckon they're a bunch of useless overcharging cowboys anyway, but surely establishing the wheels DoR before fitting is normal practise?
a quick google image check would have told them a YBR's disc is on the RHS

BTW. they didn't balance it or fit a new valve, nor did it have a valve cap
on it when he dropped it off. arseholes!.

The tyre was £40 and with the eventual £30 shabby fitting he'd have been better off going to Protyre where I always go and I had suggested this to him but he was trying to save some dosh.

That'll learn him

Not normal. Not satisfactory.
I understand him not wanting to go to Protyre. It's the minor things in customer service which often dictate where we buy goods and services. Whoever did the work was a numbskull and should have corrected it for free.

Presumably this wasn't the very large.dealer which is within a reasonable ride from you?

My local guy got one of mine the wrong way round once. Facepalmed himself and apologised because he'd marked the direction with chalk and still got it wrong. Very Happy

Changed it round there and then, didn't charge. Obviously.

Name and Shame.

I have had three run ins with shabby bike shops.
I know they try to run their shop as a business but if you try to finance your effort by scalping individual customers then your in the wrong business.

One guy, who I will not name, not only talks pish but he over-inspects MOT and lists things that are not faults.

I never go back to these shops and never recommend their 'services' to anyone.

No it wasn't Fowlers or Kelloways which are close to his lock up
they both have long wait time for service he says so doesn't use them much.
The place is called WWS motorcycle and he's been a good customer
and spent plenty with them this last few years so feeling pissed off now
and says he won't go back.

I've had to sort some of their fuck ups out so wouldn't recommend them
as competent.

The direction of rotation is also pretty fucking obvious just by looking at the wheel. Cast wheel with angled spokes which have an aero cross section.

This ^^

Plus they should also have noted the direcction of rotation on the old tyre. Beginner stuff. I'd be getting my money back from the incompetent twats.

Maybe it was a mechanic who rang up the till and wasn't sure about how it is charged.

I would call the owner and ask for a refund.
The £ is doing as much good in the OP's pocket as in the account of Botchit and Scarper Motorcycle and Scooter Services.

I had to be booked into Fowlers workshop for my PDI etc several weeks before they even have the bike. Can confirm
a long waiting time for workshop there.

As above really, cowboy behaviour. I'd be going straight back there. The only possible recourse (and it's very loose) would be if they asked the customer specifically which side the disc went on and he replied incorrectly and they acted on that instruction. Even if this was the case though, it's pretty poor, especially for the wheel to come back unbalanced and without a valvecap.

This is assuming any competence from the mechanic; doesn't sound like there's much, or they're good actors and practised at fleecing folk.

Fleecing?
Jeez, I could bleed this guy dry so easily
he has no mechanical nous what so ever, none, zero, zilch.

He's the "do I need new forks?" when he has a flat front tyre guy.
Couldn't find the spark plug if you held a gun to this head.

"That wire at the front" is the brake hose but he's also used that phrase
to refer to the speedo drive.

Paid an 'expert' £50 an hour to not fix his Mobylette when the rear bulb failed and it took me 5 minute to find a bad connection and get it working again.
Still thinks the guy is an expert cos he charges so much

Drives me fuckin nuts at times

Yep... some doctors and solicitors must get real pissed when Joe Public doesn't understand the endocrine system or theory of law.

Laughing

Don't fret.. Help your customers. They may have dumb friends that are looking for stuff to be fixed. Cool
