Bad idea, poorly executed.

Ben Elton was never the greatest host and he hasn't improved with age, plus his lefty gags are somewhat diluted by the fact he is now a fully 'established' multi millionaire, the archetypal champagne socialist.

He should've stuck with the observational comedy, he was right up there with the best of them, but anyone with a scintilla of intelligence saw right through the 'liddle bidda politics' schtick.

For me, this programme was an absolute low point in box ticking, from the desperately unfunny Rosie Jones to the two black people doing their badly scripted 'sideways look' at the news.

Add in the grim spectacle of the likes of Jo Brand and Julian Clary trying to make their routines of 30 years ago work today and you get a total waste of air time.

I had to switch off at the sight of a bloke with a tiny penis and bolt on tits, cavorting about the screen in an unscripted (yeah, right) moment of 'live' TV anarchy.

It wasn't clever and it certainly ain't funny.

Ben Elton probably made his money selling books.
He was a funny kunt in the 80s when Liverpool was in fashion.

I've read a few of his books.

Sort of OK.

Julian Clary? The trans? I can't stand men who make a living off camp.

It depressed me. Could they not have found some young talent and just had Ben Elton do a little handover skit. I feel sorry for the yoof today or maybe there's something out there as subversive as the eighties alternative scene but on the internet? Or is it all just people pranking their mates on tiktok?

Just flicked through it on catch up, Jo Brand was still quite funny, it mainly made me feel old too.

The yoof of yesterday did not have autonomy over what was pumped out of the box.

The yoof of today will have to do what the yoof of yesterday had to do.

Put up wif it.

Rose-tinted spectacles obviously but I'm sure the "alternative comedians" of yesteryear were in reaction (if one just considers comedy in isolation) the low-brow humour of the likes of Bernard Manning. I remember laughing but now, with the likes of Frankie Boyle going full-on pro-establishment, I wonder if it's a false memory Thinking

Manning was an arrogant prick. Never hesitated to let anyone know how much money he was making as a comic.
That fuk he was permanently cancelled.

That was excruciating. Awful. I stopped watching after less than 30 min. It runs for 95! If that was a celebration of 40 years of Channel 4 I say sell it, sell it now!

It was okay in places, a bit hit and miss, but iirc, the sketches sometimes fell fllat back in the 80s, still better than Strictly Come Baking Whilst Singing on Ice

Ground breaking comedy...

Moment transgender singer strips NAKED live on Channel 4 and plays the keyboard with her PENIS
