On the surface, one to cheer you up:

Southampton: Police footage shows pair rammed off scooter after chase

60mph on a 125 scooter with a pillion passenger? Thinking

So... no licence, no L-plates, no tax, (probably) no MoT, no insurance, fake plates, "dangerous driving" and caught in possession of cannabis. Sentence: a slap on the wrist Sad

It looked more like squeezed off road at walking pace than ramming, then he appeared unable to brake before hitting a wall.

It's the time stamp in the video that's from six months ago rather than the article.

The rider was sentenced this week, hence the footage only just being made public.
https://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/23077643.police-ram-biker-off-road-southampton-chase/?

"Watson was sentenced for driving without due care and attention, driving without a licence, failing to stop, using a fraudulent registration mark, possession of cannabis and driving uninsured.
[...] received a six-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months. He was also fined £400 and asked to pay £85 in costs and a £128 victim surcharge. He was also banned from driving for three months."

Not really the fault of the police but that punishment is complete bollocks. So basically
No Licence - illegal
Failed to stop - illegal (thought he could get away from police)
Using dodgy number plates - illegal
Driving uninsured - illegal
Carrying a passenger - illegal
Doing 60mph+ in a 30 - illegal
Having weed is illegal but i'll let him off

And the penalty is a bollocks suspended sentence, paltry fine, and THREE MONTH DRIVING BAN. He didn't have a licence anyway.

Seriously, people with a licence and insurance etc. get worse bans for speeding alone.

There is an argument that punishments should be proportional to people's income. e.g. caught doing 100mph in a Lambo? £10,000 fine + driving ban for 5 years. Caught doing 100mph in your works van on minimum wage? £500, 1 year ban. Sounds fair...

But the scrotes don't have anything (technically on paper at least) so get away with a smack on the wrist for the most horrendous crimes Sad

Fines are proportional to income (subject to a maximum cap) but bans and other sentencing? How does the amount you earn affect how long you should be banned for?

Rediculous idea.

Fines are proportional to income, and as far as I can tell, length of bans are not related to income.

Which seems fair enough.

What seems unfair (and utterly utterly pointless) is banning this individual for 3 months. It basically amounts to taking away a license he doesn't have any way (and has proven doesn't care about having in order to ride mopeds)

It's like tomorrow he might say "Oh I think I'll apply for my licence and go legit".
The beak replies "No brah, you're banned. You, your children, and your children's children. For 3 months."

Takes the DVLA that long anyway to get shit together
