One thing we thought would probably be pretty effective is a keyless ignition system and to wire it in series with the standard ignition switch. This would have the advantage of defeating RF scanner attacks and preventing flat batteries due to parasitic draw because it wouldn't be looking for the keyless fob until the ignition was on. If you were bikejacked, as long as you are out of range with the fob in your pocket, they wont get it started again. |
It would help. The tricky bit is getting the logic sorted right, so the security system is only required when the bike is starting and not continuously when the bike is running. It would be difficult to maintain a continuous RFID type connection with a bike engine running at a variety of revs, kicking out RF all over the spectrum in a strange, spiky manner.
Bike (and car) security is shit, because good security is expensive and doesn't help to sell vehicles. Having some kind of personal or homebrew system helps, because your attacker has to figure out how to bypass it. Multiple layers are best. Steering lock, disc lock, tracker. A chain is good, but it's a hassle. |
