Hi,

I've been trying to figure out how to change the engine oil on my jinlun 125cc (JL 125-11) for days now and I cant find any information about this!

I've looked under the engine as that's where the oil drain plug should be but I cant find any plug there...

I see one plug/bolt on the left side of the engine under the gear shifter and I'm not sure of that is the one that I need to open and I'm worried about opening that as its directly on the top of my exhaust and the body work!!

And this might even be the plug for the gearbox oil?!?

I tried to use one of these electric 12V oil suction things but it only got a small amount of oil out of the engine!

Can someone please advice on this?

The one under the shifter may be a detent plunger, in which case its related to the shifter and not the drain.

There is only oil.for the engine. Its shared with the gearbox on a bike.

Photos?

I have attached 2 photos of the same plug which is close to my gear shifter under the engine.

My browser is unhappy with downloading from that site. Can't you just use some sort of image hosting site?

Thats a drain plug. A detent plunger would go up and not sideways.

Its also nowhere near the gear selector.

Ah OK... Thanks.

Maybe the photos dont show it well enough but that's directly above my exhaust. So if I undo the bolt, the oil will pour all over the exhaust etc..

Do I have to take the exhaust off to drain the oil?

It's a strange design and place for the drain plug to be honest.

Especially because it's a Twin engine!

How does the fact it's a twin make any difference?

It seems to be in the perfect sort of position to drain the sump entirely when the bike is on the side stand. Right at the bottom and on the LHS of the bike.

Now that you have put it that way, it makes sense.

Yeah, the bike doesnt even have a middle stand. It's only got a side stand.

I've never had a twin engine but I thought the sump should be in the middle so the oil gathers in the middle from both sides of the engine and then it can be drained.

Learning new things.

Thanks mate...

Try owning almost any inline 4….

Don’t take the exhaust off, just wrap some aluminium foil around it so the oil runs off it. Any residual oil left over will burn off when the bike is started next.
