Have been looking at getting new bike since selling my last and have not yet found anything to suit.

Have seen a decent TDM 900 for sale locally and am intrigued as it's a bit different, looks comfy etc. But are they any good, in particular are they any fun? I mostly use a bike for fun but also to do longer trips now and then so after something a bit more rounded than my normal sports bikes that I end up getting.

If they are any good is there anything to watch out for mechanically or is it a pretty robust bike?

Thanks for any help.

Good bikes, grandfather of teh now popular MT09..
TDMs never that popular over here - a bit ahead of their time, the French loved them though. Ridden my bros TDM 850 .. quick enough but needs to be hauled into corners a bit, Nothing you wouldn't get used to I think. Good value I imagine.

Years ago, I had a go on a tdm850. I was more used to sports bikes, small dirt bikes and scooters, so it felt like a bit of a cumbersome thing.

The high upright position makes it good in traffic, and the big engine, makes it fine at motorway speeds, but having a lot of weight and little agility makes it not fun. I did like it, but it's not really an all rounder, more like a heavy tourer that is good in traffic.

It would be good as a second or third bike, but the only reason to have it as your only bike would be if you didnt trust yourself to keep your license with anything else.

Some people refer to the TDM as TeDiuM. That's a bit harsh, but it's not entirely wrong either.

Try before you buy. If you've not ridden anything like it before, you need to find out if you like it or not.

Try an actual MT09 while you're at it. Especially if it's fun you're after first and foremost.

It's the fugly nature of Yamaha that keeps me coming back. I identify with ugliness.

Where's chris-red when you need him?

All those years of recommending TDM's in every possible 'What bike' thread and the one time someone actually asks about one, he's nowhere to be found.

I was summoned Laughing

Been years since I've been here glad to be remembered.

TDMs are Brilliant I've put almost 100k miles on them.

Ideal if you are taller than average, very flat torquey power. Excellent brakes ok suspension but can be improved. It isn't doing to set the world alight but from my PoV the best all-rounder for a tall person. They are bulletproof barring a couple weaknesses that are easily fixed. I'm out tonight but if you have any specific questions let me know and I'll answer tomorrow. I've rebuilt from the ground up and had them for about 15 years.

Hi all Shocked
