Just a general question...

I mean the 125cc bracket, that has been going up for a while. As more and more people are seeing it as a means of cheap transport.

But it also seems the real motorbikes are also going up in price. I'm in particular looking at the used market.

This trend does not seem to be happening so much with cars though.
Am I correct in this or am I chatting shit lol? I got no data to back this up. Just that I often scroll through auto trader a few times a month.

Used cars definitely up as there's not many new ones coming

bikes seem to go up with inflation once they get past their initial depreciation from new

Bike prices do seem mental at the moment, was hoping to pick up a winter bargain and people are asking silly money for old bikes. I fancy an FZ1 and theres bugger all for sale, and those that are are around 15+yrs old and looking at £4-5k which to me seems mental, I could buy a new bike for not much more than that.

Was looking for a new car recently too, and found someone listing a P reg Fiesta for £2500, who the hell would pay that?

I often browse ebay for sub 1500 quid 'project' bikes and there's loads of choice - however if you're after a specific model less that 15 years old I can imagine the prices are solid.

Bro just picked up a super CB175 light resto project (we hope!) for 900 quid.

but refuse to join the "Spend a grand to build a £500 bike" club.

I think I'm in that club. Embarassed

I'll make my excuses later ("I had the engine and a load of parts", etc.)

Not all used bike prices are going up. Some are down over the past couple of years.

Original R100 (needs setting right) for £1800:

K75RT for £2600:

I don't think bike prices are up, but I do get the impression that they're perhaps varying more widely than before.

I think on the one hand, you have inflation, what's happening in the used car market, speculation etc. meaning that people are trying to get higher prices. On the other hand, you have people feeling the pressure of the cost of living increases and selling bikes (which for most of us, are non-essential), so there are more bikes on the market, driving prices down.

Overall, I don't think it's changing massively. Just my totally anecdotal evidence of keeping a general eye on bike prices though.

The K75 looks useable and has some working life left in it
the others are destined to be garage queens where someone will spend squillions of quids and hours on them and then be afeared to actually use them lest they get scratched or dirty.

Yes I was 'in the market' and observed the same. Also, new prices went up significantly. Most likely inflation and shipping costs. There are still good deals to be had if you're patient though. I managed to pick up a spotless low mileage 2022 Zontes 125-G1 for £2500 just after christmas. It's not spotless now though.

What you call a good deal does not compute. Laughing

CBT limited - I procrastinated long enough on that choice Smile

In the end was that or Honda CB125R. If price was no issue it would've been the latter. Although, cant find fault with the Zontes so far.
