The EU already has it.

I think it was imported from Murica.

If you fly a drone it will need to have remote ID that allows others to identify it.

Drone makers will be asked to provide on their devices.

I think there are glue on systems available that would allow conformity for older devices.

It a case of, We now know who you are so we can do you.

But many drone users do not even have the required pilot license to fly a drone.
That is mandatory for drones over 250g (or something)

So if you don't bother with a license you'll not be too fussed about RID for your drone.
So the criminals will go free.

I couldn't care less if RID is brought in, doesn't change the flying rules on proximity, line of sight, etc for my 245g drone.

I already comply with the requirements for mine of less than 250g, I have registered it, it’s got the ID stickers on it, I fly within the rules and pay the licensing fee as and when asked. If compliance is made any more of a palava I might just not bother.

It’s a remote controlled toy and it’s not carrying nuclear waste.

Sometimes I despair of this country.

I went to Iceland earlier this year to watch the volcano. There is a little sign up on the path which says keep your drone under 120m. Obviously there were several drones there buzzing about. There were also a few helicopters who would circle overhead, no lower than 120m. Everything worked fine, no fuss and no bother. Cannot imagine the same happening here, drones and aircraft in close proximity, potential national disaster!!

I spent an absolute fortune getting the drone licence and all the equipment to run professionally with, 100% contingency so as never to let a client down.

We were doing 3d scanning and mapping using Pix, inspection, photogrammetry, video and photography (well my mate did as I am shite at anything to do with Art). The plan was to do inspection of solar panels

The business failed badly, why? Probably bad marketing and general business management, people's willingness to change, they'd rather build a scaffold than use a drone to do a roof inspection. The criteria required to fly a professional drone company did not help. As well as me and my mate being stoners. This was 8 years ago when industrial drone specialists were limited to nerds.

We actually managed to get two paid job creating a 3d scan of a farmer's field to show where the drainage was on the field. Also a section of Forrest. He and we were very impressed by the results of that.

Nobody was really interested in our services in general though. Even providing aerial photos of properties advertised for sale by an estate agent. Probably different now as every man and his dog can fly drones these days.

Failure so I went back to spending every spare penny I have on motorbikes. Fucking hate drones these days Laughing

It’s a bit like the drivers caught with no tax, insurance, etc. who get a driving ban, as if that’s going to stop them.

CAA will push drones out of practical usage if/when Jeff start using them for deliveries.

The consultation ends in Jan 2024 but my scepticism is tingling.

As with many things it's often a miniscule minority that act like goons that get highlighted and used as the hitting stick.

18,000 reported incidents last year yet zero stats saying how many of these reports were illegal activity. The devil's in the detail.

Drone tracking is a good idea yet it has a limited range of a couple of kms. It won't stop someone from flying in a silly place for a short time.
It probably won't stop many cases as each police force will have to have to send 1 or 2 officers to each report...they'll be depending upon people with a tracking App and I wonder how many workarounds are available to make linking a drone with a pilot nigh on impossible. DIY drones as an example.

Batteries last not much longer than 1/2hr in non commercial equipment so, as mentioned, the PoPo will have to be quick, have the necessary gear in their van and the report will have to be early in the drone's flight.
Unless they sit in some bushes waiting.

Clear the sky of proles is the message.

.

Still don't care, only difference between now and then would be the CAA know it's in the air at the time. I honestly don't know why so many people are getting bent out of shape over it on other forums and reddit.

Traffic scum were in my industrial estate few weeks back and caught a guy that works in a unit further down from us with no tax, MOT or insurance and we stood at the window watching as his car got taken away on the back of a recovery truck and he was taken away in the back of their motor.

Funny thing is I think they were just there having a coffee and he drove past and got caught on their ANPR and busted.

There's no APNR for the skies yet.

But I smell it coming. Very Happy

It not a fuss. I totally agree with the principles.
Cnuts with drones can be part of that minority who annoy the fuk out of people not interested in dronary.

I don't mind registering etc. I am already done.
The issue is the methods employed to make a device compliant.
DJI have only posted info on US market. (Coz they sul a lotta us dique.)
Nothing for UK eu.

I'm sure it's software download option. But time is running out.

Newer devices will be fitted with OEM.
My DJI will need it. I just like to be infront of any curve.

European and UK are a big market

Maybe I am deaf but I honestly can't hear my drone once it's up in the air.

That's good. Quiet ones make it a lot easier to film in bedroom windows without getting caught. Thumbs Up

There's more folk getting into drones as toys.
I use mine as a learning tool. Embarassed

CAA et al, understandably, May just want to be proactive and put some sort of regulation in place before it is out of control.

I would like the CAA to also look at controls being put in place to limit the diameter of pipe a lunatic can carry on his Corsa/Honda Civic too.
The birds have long flown on that one though.
