I'm sure you have seen on the news a 4 year old girl was killed by a dog on Milton Keynes on one of the major council estates.

On local estate media before it was all shut down there were people complaining bout a pitbull type dog chasing people and it's owner egging it on. I have no idea if it was the same dog but consensus is that it was.

I'm a dog lover, I've had GSD's as long as I can remember but something needs to be done to control dog ownership in my view. At the very minimum all dogs must be microchipped, a licence system reintroduced and dog owner must have 3rd party insurance.

No, it won't bring the little girl back but it may stop the trend of gangs/toughs/yobbos using dogs as weapons.

There again we can't stop people stabbing each other so what chance have we got with dogs. Rolling Eyes

Trouble is, pond-life won't obey the rules so whatever is introduced won't stop young Tyson owning his American Doberstaff or whatever today's most dangerous breed is and said pooch chewing people's faces off.

Perhaps the solution would be to have snatch-squads in vans picking up anybody with a puffer jacket, road-man handbag and a vicious-looking mutt. They could put them all in a pit, throw in raw meat, close the lid then open it again 2 weeks later...

Just a thought...

Police say it was a family pet and are looking into what breed it was.

Sorry Mr. Pitbull man, I jumped to conclusions.

It's going to keep happening. There is an epidemic of poorty socialised, overly anthroporphised "lockdown puppies".

I'm seeing a lot more fearful, clingy and difficult to manage young adult dogs coming into the surgery. Many of the owners are in denial about it and treat the dog as if it's a child. Often the only way I can get anything done is to find an excuse to take it away from the owner into a different room and get my nurse to help handle them. There are quite a few needing to be bombed out with trazodone before they even come in through the door.

A puppy will deal with this kind of thing by becoming withdrawn and fearful. As they get older, they're more likely to respond with aggression.

Training this kind of thing out of them is a huge commitment in time and effort which is beyond the scope of most owners and needs to start with admitting there is a problem. I fully expect to be euthanaising quite a lot of young, healthy dogs in the next few years. Hopefully before they actually do someone a serious injury.

The creation of the underclass along with the current reckless immigration are also eugenic policies or something worse.

"Rescue Centre" and I wonder how large a "donation" they had to make.

I'd make my customary bet of 9 bob that whoever it was "rescued" from had its ears illegally cropped. Which might have required a larger "donation".

most dog bites are advoidable dogs rearly bite without warning

but many cant read the signs

in the uk its a two fold problem with bad breading and owners that dont have a clue what there doing with larger more powerfull breeds

recent ones often have been inexperianced owners with large guard breeds that they have not owned from a pup

id never allow a dog around children that had not been socilised with them

offten some breeds with mistake small children for prey if they got a high pray drive and not socilised corectly

if had dogs all my life including rotwhilers for many years as my favorate breed

tip if ever get a rottie dont expect to take a dump without a audiance again Very Happy

Dog trainers will tell you that the dogs already know how to sit and stay. It's the dog owners who are getting the obedience training.

Properly socialising animals as stinkwheel says, if a priority.
Ot just with humans but dogs must learn to behave with other dogs too.

I agree the pepole getting a dog as lockdown thing was insanity
and as you say diagnosing and desensatizing a reactive dog is not a task for most owners

but if seen some bad vets too

im a rottie guy for many years as a vet you will know hoiw critical a rotties first visits to the vet

i got a great vet now sadly my current one is a job no fault of the vet she was fine to she needed to be sedated a couple of times

she one of those hard to sedate dogs

first time was for a need xray that was bad

second time it satrted with the need to have one thise dam chips removed one of my dogs we found it in her chest in the middle of a tumor

it had migrated to behind the ear and was iritating the nervs behind the ear causing pain

she started getting touchy if it was court there when she was fussed

we tryed every thing all that happend was the poor girl got more stressed and just stoned but not sedated

she had enoutgh ketamin to put 3 grate danes

in the end we had no choice but to send vets out of room and me to hog tire her jaw under muzel and they me two vet and two nures just to jump on her and hold her down

while indusing the general with a very anggery and stressed dog

i am dreding next time we need a vet visit as she aint going to be happy

its a dam shame as that vet had been so good with her and gave time to introduce her first visits gentlly as you know a rotties first visits to vet are critical that there handeled well

micro chiping dont work for bad owners and i hat the things caused a tumor in one of my dogs the size of a orange in her chest another migrated a nerve branch behind that ones ear

all it wil do is cause more agro for responsible owners and be ignored by the morons

already micro chips are required by law only exception is if it has to be removed for medical reson like my current girl

i think all dogs should be made to wear muzzles in public, unless guide dogs etc.

would solve pretty much all dog attacks over night.

TBH honest the closes that any of them attempting to savage someone was when one of them jumped on the sofa and promptly fell asleep.

Mate has a Chihuahua that's 14 years old, no teeth and is afraid of nothing. She'll chase off dogs 10 times her size. Feisty little thing she is.

This is her being dog sat on my boat while he was away. One good thing, her poo was way smaller than my dogs was for picking up. Laughing
