I'm sure you have seen on the news a 4 year old girl was killed by a dog on Milton Keynes on one of the major council estates.

On local estate media before it was all shut down there were people complaining bout a pitbull type dog chasing people and it's owner egging it on. I have no idea if it was the same dog but consensus is that it was.

I'm a dog lover, I've had GSD's as long as I can remember but something needs to be done to control dog ownership in my view. At the very minimum all dogs must be microchipped, a licence system reintroduced and dog owner must have 3rd party insurance.

No, it won't bring the little girl back but it may stop the trend of gangs/toughs/yobbos using dogs as weapons.

There again we can't stop people stabbing each other so what chance have we got with dogs. Rolling Eyes

Trouble is, pond-life won't obey the rules so whatever is introduced won't stop young Tyson owning his American Doberstaff or whatever today's most dangerous breed is and said pooch chewing people's faces off.

Perhaps the solution would be to have snatch-squads in vans picking up anybody with a puffer jacket, road-man handbag and a vicious-looking mutt. They could put them all in a pit, throw in raw meat, close the lid then open it again 2 weeks later...

Just a thought...

Police say it was a family pet and are looking into what breed it was.

Sorry Mr. Pitbull man, I jumped to conclusions.

On the plus side, none of my chihuahuas have ever savaged anyone.

It's going to keep happening. There is an epidemic of poorty socialised, overly anthroporphised "lockdown puppies".

I'm seeing a lot more fearful, clingy and difficult to manage young adult dogs coming into the surgery. Many of the owners are in denial about it and treat the dog as if it's a child. Often the only way I can get anything done is to find an excuse to take it away from the owner into a different room and get my nurse to help handle them. There are quite a few needing to be bombed out with trazodone before they even come in through the door.

A puppy will deal with this kind of thing by becoming withdrawn and fearful. As they get older, they're more likely to respond with aggression.

Training this kind of thing out of them is a huge commitment in time and effort which is beyond the scope of most owners and needs to start with admitting there is a problem. I fully expect to be euthanaising quite a lot of young, healthy dogs in the next few years. Hopefully before they actually do someone a serious injury.

The creation of the underclass along with the current reckless immigration are also eugenic policies or something worse.

"Rescue Centre" and I wonder how large a "donation" they had to make.

I'd make my customary bet of 9 bob that whoever it was "rescued" from had its ears illegally cropped. Which might have required a larger "donation".

Dog trainers will tell you that the dogs already know how to sit and stay. It's the dog owners who are getting the obedience training.

Properly socialising animals as stinkwheel says, if a priority.
Ot just with humans but dogs must learn to behave with other dogs too.

i think all dogs should be made to wear muzzles in public, unless guide dogs etc.

would solve pretty much all dog attacks over night.

Once again, the crims and scummers are the ones that will ignore the rule.

TBH honest the closes that any of them attempting to savage someone was when one of them jumped on the sofa and promptly fell asleep.

Mate has a Chihuahua that's 14 years old, no teeth and is afraid of nothing. She'll chase off dogs 10 times her size. Feisty little thing she is.

This is her being dog sat on my boat while he was away. One good thing, her poo was way smaller than my dogs was for picking up. Laughing
