Are you implying her partner is a major suspect - and that although he's not been arrested yet, they haven't let him out of their sight and therefore the public is safe? Because if you're not, I don't get how the public isn't potentially at risk. |
I'm not actually implying anything specific, I'm just saying that the only people who actually *know* anything significant are the police.
They won't suddenly tell everyone to lock their doors and stay in because it's a massive overreaction, and cause panic? I'd say by-and-large serial killers are not very common, and it's usually a much more mundane explanation. Having people panic is not a good outcome. |
I'm not saying they should tell everyone to lock their doors, I'm suggesting that it is potentially rash to rule out third party involvement at this stage, and put all the eggs in the basket marked "river."
They will not look good at all if someone else is attacked and, or, murdered in that area - and it transpires it's the same sociopath. As unlikely as that is, shouldn't the police at least be warning the public to be on their guard - given that their entire case seems to be resting on circumstantial evidence? Or are you going with a "police know best" and "we shouldn't speculate"? If so, I genuinely envy your faith in their ability to deal with such cases. There's no irony or sarcasm in this comment, btw. ____________________ "Life is a sexually transmitted disease and the mortality rate is one hundred percent."

The police are not the people we thought they were in the 80s and 90s. They have terrible corruption problems, vetting problems and institutional bias and prejudice that can't be rinsed out with a single piece of legislation or task force or initiative. However, in order to become a senior police detective one assumes they aren't a total drooling moron and have at least the deductive and analytical abilities that we do, if not moreso with added human experience, strong cynicism of the general public and documented history of this type of case. Yes, I do have a small amount of faith that they know better, not least for the fact that they have the control over the information released, and we just have some rag's rote reprinting of a press release to go on.
We as the public do not have all the facts, we can be sure of that. ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F

You're saying they're not much cop?
Seriously though my professional experiences of the police (with regards to CCTV) is the detectives in the field are pretty clueless. They're looking for simple "we can pin it on this mug" rather than Sherlock Holmes deductions.
Classic example: my hander? would that be the right word? anyway, a detective sergeant was typing up the witness statement (I'd removed the CCTV unit from a night club for analysis back at the station) asked me what the red squiggly lines meant in Microsoft Word Conversely the non-field agents - desk sergeants and civilian specialists - have all seemed pretty good. Learnt quite a bit from the police IT guys in Manchester that helped my job going forward.
The police were never very good a solving crime in the first place so not really surprising they've moved onto other things. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I mentioned the grey haired grandad too, to underline my first point. No one’s interested, no one’s speculating, hardly anyone is searching for him because he’s a grey, old, working class guy and there’s obviously no question his wife did him in…… |

Cos that's the kind of thing I could easily understand, would even consider myself. |
