With my first impending trackday looming...

I think I might be wise to fork out for some knee sliders?
My leathers do not have any velcro on them so i might have to get some sticky things.

Anyone recommend anywhere cheap as I've also got to get some R&G's crash bungs.

As someone who did their first trackday only a few weeks ago, I'd say that sliders weren't necessary - not unless you're a kneedown wiz in the first place, which obviously you're not as otherwise you'd have sliders already... You'll have more than enough to concentrate on as a first timer.

Having said that I did have sliders but only because I'd had to buy some new leather trousers with an all round zip and they came free with them. They are still scuff free...

Also (with apologies to anyone that did Smile ) I didn't notice anyone in the novice group who was getting their knee down on a regular basis.

Recommend J&S Accessories for clothing. The chap who served me gave me the free sliders without being asked and without me realising I got any.

I would say it depends on how much you move about on the bike.

If you don't move your ass off the seat at all, then you will be fine, but if you have tried to get your knee down in the past on the road and hang off loads, but just haven't quite got it down yet, then I would say get some because you will be carrying more lean and more speed than you would on the road, and you might touch down.

The first time I scuffed my sliders was at a Donnington Novice day, and I did it by accident.

But it did teach me where I needed to be sat on the bike, and what position I needed to be in to touch knee to tarmac.

It shouldn't cost you more than 15 squids to get some slider patches put on your leathers, plus the cost of your sliders, in all look at spending about 40 notes.

Remember that Knee Down isn't the quickest way round the corners, it is just the flashiest Mr. Green

Which track you doing?

Hi

Maybe I should lend you mine. Used for one track day but unmarked Laughing .

Personally I did not want to get used to hanging off at the same time as getting used to riding on the track.

All the best

Keith

As sad as going around and around an island is I say that there is no better way to perfect your cornering and body position.

Learning to get your knee down before the track day means you know how far you need to lean and how far you need to hang off.

You may say 'well getting your knee down is just something to boast about in the pub'. In actual fact it really does help the stability of the bike and also is perfect for judging how far you are leaning the bike (which isn't always easy).
