The mudguards and sidepanels have that sort of out-of-proportion look (in a nice way) that reminds me of something old and Soviet like a Planeta or Voskhod.

I quite like it; apart from anything else it's nice to see something that's had a degree of imagination beyond badly-executed caff racers applied to it.

If you really wanted one of those little 50s/60s italian bikes, but you want it to actually run and be able to get parts (and 95% of the population not to be able to tell the difference)... Thumbs Up

It's tasteful. Just thinking, but that oddball bike seems to prove that small bikes look better when they're long and low, and filled out. I mean, a cafe racer/scrambler or whatever fad bike could look OK in an Ebay ad, but picture a 190-pound 6-foot tall bloke on it. A CG125 "cafe"-styled bike with a cut-down CG125 frame with a big old geezer on it would look absolutely stupid. It's visually unappealing to have a minimal, stripped-down look on many Japanese bikes when there's someone actually sitting on them. On that one, we don't see what it would look like with a man sitting on it, but even as it is, it's just better, nevertheless.

That thing I like, I can imagine tootling about on that with a
daft grin my face.

On the subject of retro fitting modern(ish) bikes
I was reminded of one of the few modded CXs that I actually liked.
This one, its got a kind of 1950's vibe to it
Be better in black imo but the standard of work looks good to me

It's definitely a high standard of work, but I don't like it one bit. If you do everything the ideal way when it comes to bikes, you're keeping obsolete industries on life support for a little while longer (those industrial units will be gone in a couple of years and replaced by flats, and the skilled workers will have retired and moved away, so who cares*), and wasting money. Every nut and bolt on that thing looks perfect. I see a colossal waste of money on something that won't hold value because only the guy who built it wants it exactly like that. It's worth it to him alone.

The CG-engined bike in the first picture is a different kettle of fish. That's a highly original idea. He isn't going to get anything professionally painted or plated or anything like that. Of course, that's a waste of money too. But he wasted much less money to make his idea come to life.

*To explain: these guys who did their apprenticeships etc. care about their kids and their close friends, and that's it. Noddy coming along to get his wheels powder-coated is just a walking wallet.

Out of the two I reckon the CG Aermacchi has the most charm/fun factor
and is a bike you'd ride on a rainy day.
The CX looks a more serious build and looks to have had had tons of attention
(and dosh) thrown at it.
Bikes like that tend to turn into garage queens.

I like bikes I can get on and ride, not obsessively worry about getting it dirty.
