Hey guys and gals. I've only been riding a few months, my knowledge of motorcycle mechanics is limited.

I've had my motorcycle for 4 months and as per the warranty agreement I had it serviced after 3 months. It was running fine prior to the service which as I understand was an oil change and throttle adjustment. I didn't ride the motorcycle home so didn't notice any issues (trailer).

However first ride out following that I noticed the bike would cut out when dropping from 2nd into 1st and after that when accelerating through 1st and 2nd. Even with the throttle heavily applied the bike would slow and cut out.

As of today the bike cut out and took several minutes to restart. I'm pretty new to bikes but a few observations which surely cannot be correct:-

-When in 1st and with no throttle applied the motorcycle will continually travel at 5mph. Maybe in a bigger bike this is viable but surely not a 125.

-When on the big stand, I can start the bike, put it into gear, apply no throttle and the back wheel continues to spin and the bike does not stall, I can go up through all the gears and although it doesn't spin faster it does keep going.

All whilst the engine management light is on. Obviously I will need to get it back seen as its under warranty but is there anything I can try so I don't look like a twat if its something simple?

I'd take it straight back, it's in warranty so not your problem. Nothing you've described sounds like "self inflicted" faults.

Who rode the bike to the service?

I took the bike back and forth on the back of a trailer.

The engine management light doesn't come on to light up your day
but because it detects a fault in the EFI system
Not your fault
Just take it back

20 years ago a housemate had a Gilera scooter which had (artificial?) service intervals shorter than my sportsbike, and the dealer seemed equipped only to sell bikes and perform minimal servicing. I suspect the OP may have similar problems but must insist on the vendor sorting under warranty.

If the OP’s bike moves slowly forward in 1st with no throttle that’s not a problem or an indication of a fault. Just pull the clutch in or put it in neutral.

A bike in neutral on the main stand may turn the wheel slowly due to the engine oil exerting a small rotational force on the clutch. It’s not a problem.

Engine management light on after servicing? Take it back.

It'd be a problem if it didn't as it's pretty much how torque converters work in cars Smile

It’s disconcerting when you first observe it with a bike though, hence Uncle Jimbo’s soothing words.

Now get it back to the dealer before it ‘splodes and blows your balls off.
