ok over the past few months iv really been thinking about getting a motorbike i dont know much about them (just been reading the sticky about the tests and stuff so i now know alot more than i did already and have a friend at college thats usefull... sometimes) i hope to have a bike by around april or may time next year and have been looking at some bikes and like the honda cbr125 (liked the aprilia tuono125 but thats just way too much and i dont have the cash also i dont think its the kinda bike you'd want as a first bike:D) so anyways iv heard the honda cbr125 has a top speed of 110mph but also heard it wont go over 70mph so im asking wether this is true or not or if you have to run it in to get the full speed? (as id rather have a bike that says 110mph on the speedo and can go it insted of only 3/4 of it) although im not a "mad" kind of person as such for example i know people that would go 200mph on a bike if they could get a licence...and a bike that will do it, i on the other hand wouldnt but its still nice 2 know if the bike can go or not (so not asking if it can do 110mph cuz i wanna go 110mph)
thanks to anyone that replys |

Not many learner legal 125's will do 110 mph...
actually, er, none of them will!
The CBR is a four stroke 125 that cannot be deretricted to make it go faster. The top speed is about 85mph. Thats all.

The top speed is an indicated 85!!!!!!!!!!! ffsa, Hate when people say that, easy to do I know, but I really can'tm see them doing 80......in real terms.
Get a sensible 4T to learn on, pass yoiur tesat on it and then get a big restricted bike. |

erm... iv been to the honda.co.uk website and the speedo on the bike pics say 110 mph, iv zoomed on the pics and it says mph so if no honda cbr 125's will go over 85mph y does the speedo say so much over 85? |

Well,I thought people stopped thinking that bikes could go as fast as what the speedo goes up to when they were about 10, but I guess I was wrong.
[edit] OK, that wasn't helpful. Speedos aren't on a one type per bike basis - the same model speedo might be fitted to a number of different bikes, other bikes that may do closer to the 110mph it shows. ____________________ Current: CB500 Previous: CB100N, CB250RS, XJ900F, GT550, GPZ750R/1000RX, AJS M16, R100RT, Enfield Bullet

My mums car speedo goes to 140mph...
Its a 1.4 diesel and barely does 80...
Search for CBR125 Specifications instead of messing about looking at speedos! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Most little bikes can do what the speedo says (mainly scooters). But I have a couple of mates who have CBR125s, and they arent as fast (or quick) as the RS125, Cagiva125 etc...
I still personally quite like the CBR125, and If I had the ability to ride one, Id probably get 1. But Unfortionatly I will never be able to ride a Geared bike (without having to spend £300+ to get hydraulic gear changer fitted).
So im off for a car.

I just helped a mate buying 125's bikes and after lookin around i gotta say that in my opinion the NSR is miles ahead of the CBR.
Both Honda's so wont fall apart any time soon, but the NSR is bigger, faster, better performance and from what i gather actually cheaper (We bought a non-dropped '04 Black one for £1500 after some haggling!) than most CBR's i seen around.
Things i heard from dealers/owners -
Wheels are very Skinny
Four Stroke makes them sluggish
Not very big in general (you can dwarf it wasy)
Dunno my personal opinion there, never ridden either (i was a Dragstar 125er, big cruiser hehe) ____________________ Previous - Gilera DNA50 / XVS125 Dragstar/Honda CBR 600F/GSF 650 Bandit
