So the better half has decided she wants to get onto 2 wheels and after a bit of hunting has found a bike she likes, in a price bracket she can afford, by a manufacturer that I trust to not fall to pieces instantly.

Slight problem, its a non runner at the moment with some questionable wiring bodges done by previous 17yr old owners. (choc block connectors do not belong on alternator wiring...)

Ive been hunting around for a while now but the only wiring diagram i can find is a spanish one for the 250. Anyone got a link to a wiring diagram that might help me get this 04 marauder running for her?

Shes ordered the gz/gs/gn etc haynes but still waiting on delivery.

Cheers
John

stinkwheel Well I just had my hands up a pigs fanny. Which makes your concerns pale into insignificance.

I...probably dont have the wiring diagram, but have the same version of google installed as most people:-)

What I did do this weekend was swop one dubious origin gn125 clone engine for another, and figured out enough wiring to make it easy. Your engine is different...but same concept.

two sets of wires come out of the alternator side...one set will probably be slightly thicker and all the same colours (3 wires if i remember correctly)...yellow in my case. They all go towards the regulator rectifier side.

there'll be another two wires...these are the pulse trigger for ignition. Order is important (i think..or i got it right first time). Put them to where they should go, probably the cdi.

there'll be another wire in that area originating from the front sprocket-ish...thats neutral...if it is 6 or so wires, then its neutral, 1,2,3,4,5,...for if you have a gear position indicator...it may be 6 wires, but only one connected...same thing...neutral lights will come on from one of the wires, and individual gears on the other wires. Manufacturing often means same wiring harness for two or more bikes..so dont be surprised if you got a connector with 6 wires in, and 1 wire out in that area.

theres probably a few interlocks preventing starting...clutch lever side may be a switch and a sidestand switch. Sidestand swith bypass is by connecting the two wires together if the switch is faulty...i think clutch switch you disconnect the wires

everything else (switches and lights etc) should be figure-out-able.

if youre seriously stuck, the vanvan 125 should be a similar enough thing

aye Ive got a good understanding of how all the systems work, just hoping for a diagram to help identify particular wire colours and plugs for fault finding.

Ive got a 2nd hand loom on the way that isnt so butchered and a haynes manual. I plan to remove all clutch/sidestand interlocks like I do on my own bikes and teach her how to not need them. In my experiece interlocks (especially sidestand switches) can cause a lot of intermittent problems that can be a bugger to detect so id rather rip them out from the offset.
