Recently overheated, seized, then destroyed the old engine so we bought a replacement. Went in well, turns over but won't start. Had it in a garage and they checked the usual, clearances, timing, compression, spark and fuel, all of which were normal, I fitted it with a new carb and even tried some easy start but still the problem persists. Has anyone got any ideas or advice. Even better If anyone is from bolton could you maybe come and give me a hand with some solutions. Thanks in advance

If easy start doesn't even produce a cough then I would say you have either have almost zero compression or no spark. Long shot stoopid would be no air (blocked intake) or a blocked exhaust. I discount these given how the previous engine died.

Take the spark plug out and rest it against a metal part of the engine with the HT lead connected. Are you getting spark when you turn over? Put your thumb over the spark plug hole (without getting zapped by the plug!) and turn over again, are you getting pressure pushing your thumb away?

"Had it in a garage and they checked the usual, clearances, timing, compression, spark and fuel, all of which were normal,"

Hmmm
Were they? as you just listed the most common causes
for a motor to not run.
I obviously l don't/can't know and nowhere near Bolton but as the CG is such a simple machine, suspect someone has made some wrong assumptions or overlooked something pretty basic.

I'd start by comparing the specs of the original and 'new' engine
especially the ignition system and wiring

This replacement, was it a Honda or a Chinese clone?
Also what year?
Checking Fowlers parts fiche I see
the 2007 CG125 is the ES which has a DC CDI ignition system.
Earlier engines had an AC CDI system which wont play well in an ES

Make sure you are operating the choke properly.
The choke on the cg125 has 3 positions.
Only 2 are any use.
I cannot remember if it is all the way up for full choke or all the way down.

Some engines will not start without choke.

Some will flood very easily due to the above if they do not start within a few attempts.

Starter motors make it all a bit easier.

How did you get it to a garage?

Take it back, ask them to show you the procedure they used to start the hoowur.

I don't believe they would ensure all the basics were correct, not be able to start it but then return the beast without advice.

you've increased the variables by doing this...a bike that seized doesnt need a new carb. A new carb is an unknown quantity.

its the simplest of simple engines...verify for yourself :spark, compression, fuel.

Especially when the (presumably) Honda original, even if worn, will be superior to a new (presumably) Chinesium replacement. Put the old one back on.
