Planning permission for small buildings

I'm looking at buying a plot of land that is next to and behind some garages and I'm wondering about planning permission to put further garages on it. Does anyone have any experience of doing this and what it requires?

The local council Planning Dept. will guide you.

I put my garage on the driveway at the gable end of my house.

Local regulation states that I did not require planning permission for that building.
One prerequisite is that the building is not tied to the the house.

Of course there are differences and details for every location, building type and council policy.

Good fortune for me was that the chap I spoke to at the council, when I called about planning permission, was a builder and he gave me tons of free advice on the way to prepare the site too.
He even said, 'Any problems, give me a shout.'

I know there are many stories of difficulty but stuff still gets built.

I don't think you have to own the land to get planning permission it. As said above, planners are usually happy to have an informal chat about any proposals and may even have information about the site not known generally.

stuff for homeowners:
can build stuffs in garden (sheds and garages and shit) up to 25sqm without planning permission ..if
1) you're still left with 50% of the original land before development..i.e. you cant end up with no garden
2) more than 2m from the boundary?...can go single story up to 4m high
3) closer than 2m to the boundary? single story MAX HEIGHT ANYWHERE 2.4m

Gents, a quick thing to consider - nothing anybody here has said about the need or otherwise for planning permission is correct. Nothing can be judged until one knows precisely what someone wants to build, and even then there are more grey areas than Lorraine Kelly's minge....

If you really want to know, ask for a determination under s.192 of the Town & Country Planning Act 1990, or if you want an opinion that is reliable speak to someone who knows the shit...
