Hi all,
I am about to purchase a 1995 yamaha xjr 400. I noticed a oil leak as per image. Kindly is it a major issue to fix?

Is that second picture of the actual bike you are purchasing? I ask because it looks like it has been dropped on that cover and it has been (badly) repaired and touched up.

If it's just the gasket, it's easy enough. If the cover is damage/cracked/distorted? well maybe a bit more involved.

Yeap its the actual bike. Is it the gearbox or clutch cover?

It's the crankcase cover. The clutch and gearbox are behind the cover on the left.

Check that you can still buy a new crankcase cover before buying the bike, in case the cover itself is cracked.

What he said. I've just had a quick look on ebay and a few specialist Yamaha sites and nothing. Looks like rocking horse poo levels of availability.

It's a sleeved 600, the engine was used on a number of 400-600cc Yamahas.

This website says it's part number 4HM-15426-01-00.

Google or Ebay that number and it looks like you might have options.

(Was my first bike. Lovely!)
