Hiya chaps.
Obviously this is common practice on mx bikes and trials bikes.

But does anyone else lift their bum off the seat on supersports bikes whilst cornering if there is a big bump?
I do this instinctively but not sure if this is a bad technique on a sportsbike.

Can i smell a roast?

Surely that's what suspension is for.

If I'm going for it on the twisties, my arse hardly ever touches the seat. I don't actually stand up on the pegs, more hover over the seat but almost all my weight is either on my feet or through my legs onto the tank. The seat is just a point of reference or a brace for when you give it the beans.

It's all about rotational moments round the roll axis and front to rear trim. If your weight is on the pegs, small body position changes make a larger difference because the centre of body mass is acting on a longer lever.

Stand up trials riding takes that effect to an extreme.

Yeah, thats what i do if i see a big bump in the road. I feel like i would get bucked off if i had all my weight on the seat.
Just wondering if this is a bad habit to get into.

You are likely to have buckled wheels if you get thrown off the seat

That's called "posting" and is normal and fine. It'll help you retain control of the bike and will ease the overall impact of the thing on both you and the bike.

Although the thing to practice is seeing the bump in the road, visualising the line you're going to take to avoid it and following that. If you look at the bump/pothole, you'll automatically steer towards it it so look where you want to go. Harder than it sounds.

My pert buttocks don't prolapse every time I go over a bump.

The meteor is shite for standing on the pegs because they’re a bit forward. It’s also shite for hitting bumps sat down at speed there’s a few by me where I get launched into the air every time because of a big seam in the crappy road surface.

Luckily the seat is cushy and 2 years of scootering got me used to a good old pounding.

Same, if it's a speed bump that goes across the width of the road, I stand on the pegs to save my balls being pancaked.

I never feel any benefit of sliding over the seat or hanging off.
I rife mostly on public roads.
Public roads are not clean enough to be predictable for committed riding.
Tracks are 100% different.
The tracks I ride on are smooth and spotlessly clean and therfore, predictable.
