 Posted: 12:42 - 25 Jun 2023 Post subject: Clutch adjustments |
 |
|
The old fella's '70s KZ1000 started suffering clutch slip. 40+ years bike, who knows could be all original parts so we assumed wear and tear and bought a set of new clutch plates. Measuring the old ones they were basically at the limit so seemed like a good call.
Since the swap it's incredibly hard to get the bike into neutral. To some extent the new plates need to bed in and we did fiddle with the adjuster which initially seemed to work but it's got steadily worse to the point of ridiculousness
What we're aiming to do is strip it back down, wipe an oily rag over it so to speak and see if anything obvious jumps out at us. Looking at the parts diagram:

I'm thinking to check the steels for any warping, see if the ball-bearing (#19) has got AWOL, bent rod (eeeek!) and wear/play in the arm (#7/#35)
Anything else we should look for?
