Should appeal to those of a certain age.

A potted history of manufactureres chasing 100mph on 250 production bikes.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--s1H54GhMk

From the bikes featured in the video, I've owned a couple of 250LCs, an NSR, A KR1 and a RZ250R., My brother had a couple of the CBR250RR things as well.

Worth a watch if you like that sort of thing!
An interesting conclusion at the end as well.

Excellent post, Suntan Sid. Thanks for sharing this with us. I had a 2005 Kawasaki EX250 that would regularly hit 100 mph (indicated) in stock form, but that bike did not even get a mention on the video. Not surprised. The 2 strokes featured were definitely on the cutting edge of performance and speed and would easily spank the EX250 in any sort of spirited riding situation.

Thanks again.

My first "big bike" after passing my licence was a TDR250, felt like an absolute rocket ship having come from a 30mph restricted TS50X!

I still remember the first time I took it on a dual carriageway and saw high double digits on the speedo - supposedly it was good for a true ton, just.

The bike was getting on for 20 years old by the time I got my teenage mitts on it, and it felt every bit as ratty as you might imagine. Even as an invincible feeling 17 year old lad I don't think I was ever brave enough to attempt to top it out.

When I moved out of home I sold it on eBay and it went for about £300 in 2008, which was low for the time but they hadn't really exploded in value yet. These days they go for north of £5k - I'd love another at some point.
