The only reason I would ride a 125 these days is 1) shits and giggles and 2) because they weigh fuck all and I want to ride off road.

another option is the new Royal Enfield 350 platform, Meteor/Classic/Hunter.
cheap and a 3 year warranty.
id imagine the Classic is the least likely to be desirable to "youths" .

yeah - igt

maybe the only reasons i would ride one is if i lived in town, and never rode out of town (for whatever weird reason) or b). because i sort of like vanvans (would prefer a TW225 though - gotta be square light)

Well I got a CBF 125... fucking hell lol. quite the weight difference between my 1200gsa.

felt like I was jumping on a bicycle. I was a shaky on it for the first 10 miles. but soon got used to how light it is.

Not much of a shocker really used to driving a bike that weighed around 250kg+ and now I am on a bike that prob at most weighs 115kg. Mr. Green

As for top speed.. I had 50mph out of it but I did not really push it. acceleration started to slow around 45mph. but good enough. might drive it a little harder after the 600 mile service.

That's the beauty of a 125, you can pin it wherever you go. Abuse the bike and it will love you right back. Don't be too disappointed in the initial performance, the bike will loosen up as it breaks in. Differences between the CBF and YBR notwithstanding, my late model YBR gained a surge in performance at about 8,000mi. Before that, I often had to tuck down to hit 60mph. Now, it hits 60 at will, 70 on a good day. Performance increased, fuel economy pretty much stayed the same. Also, on mine, the engine really needs to be warmed up before max top speed is attainable. Realistically, that means 10 or 12 miles on the bike before performance peaks. Wink

my little 125 is bigger and heavier than my 400...but anyway, its the loveliest thing to potter about at anywhere from 0-50mph. Just "fun"...if you ignore the pedestrian-era acceleration.
Approaching 60mph things are buzzy and a bit unpleasant, and the one time I had it hit the cdi-imposed 10k rev limiter in top gear on a A- road made me realise I actually do want to do my mod1 and mod2.

i.e. messing about town, its lovely.
"actually going somewhere" - "a" 125 (1990's 2 stroke) "would be fine"...but the 15hp government mandated power limit 125 means youre stuck behind cars doing 58mph and you dont have enough puff to overtake and it just becomes irritating.

so I keep it for riding about town, for now. Can ride it like you stole it and nobody even notices.

I made a 45 mile journey on a cbf125 last week bringing a bike home for my mate. Mixture of speed limits on the dreaded A595 from Carlisle. The last 125 I rode was my aprilia rs125! Was a fun bike riding through estates and stuff but bordering on painful in the 60's.

What did suprise me was how people treat little bikes, I was overtake. By 3 cars at 60mph and had some lovely young lady an inch off my back wheel for three miles.

If I was never going over 40mph I'd love one though, so easy and the seat was so comfy!

Na fuck that man. You either drive a sports bike or dont lol. A 300cc CBR is for pussies who are too chicken to get a fireblade / R6 or similar variants haha.

I had a CBR 600 RR. that was fucking quick. But def not a commuter. I have no idea how people manage to commute on a bike that is designed to be ridden in such an uncomfortable riding position... yea good for going fast.. not so much for the daily commute through traffic and on a busy dual-carriageway.

Thankfully my work is only 5 miles away. So is the town centre. So I have no need to go on an A-Road.. I have also done 30-50 mile commutes on a Suzuki Address 110cc scooter lol. Not fun. Think I am a bit old for that now. So I can just plod about on my CBF barely doing any mileage.

Not as quick as my FZR1000R that I used to commute.

Pussy.

Mr. Green

Would be an interesting drag race to be honest.
old early 90s era litre sports bike vs vs a much newer 600cc sports bike.

It wouldn't. It'll do the first 1/4 mile a second faster than the 600 and would then go onto a higher top speed.

Mine had a completely reconditioned engine. Tbh if it's only got 10k miles on it then the fact that it's 20 years old is irrelevant.
