Thankyou Arnold. I dont know why the attachment isnt loading.
to describe. 200cc motor. with about 10mm of inlet manifold, ie a black plastic not yet melted flange spacer thing. then the carb. or in other words the carb is only at max 15mm from the back of the cylinders. no heat shield or owt else. So far the bike has run up 200km and not gone bang. but it dont make for confident riding.
thats it. thats all.

Are carburettors known to explode when attached to engines?

If you're not happy with the carb rubber and think it will melt, just get a new one from Ebay. You'll find something the right size.

after 200kms its not gone boom. but it bugs me because I have never seen a carb mounted that close to the back of the cylinder. I figured out the fella did it because its not possible to move the carb back, as the frame and air inlet side are to close. the plastic is standard honda stuff. on most of their smaller carbs and not melted. I guess there is about 7cm between the rear of the cylinder and the float bowl.
google came back with nowt. just the oposite. ie how far away people try to place the carb. with big long inlets.
well I guess if it goes bang, then it will be a first. just hope it lands on google so some other fella dont do the same thing.

I'm not sure if it will go bang just because of proximity. I don't see how it could, unless you get a massive backfire through the carb. That would be unlucky, I suppose.
So make a spacer then. You'll get a little condensation in it but you won't notice.

You don't generally have an issue with heat with carbs, but the complete opposite because the evaporation of fuel in the inlet causes them to ice up.

Pressure drop created by air flow through the venturi creates the drop in temperature and then moisture in the intake air condenses and freezes. And that can block jets.

If the carburetor gets too hot, fuel in the carburetor float bowl will vaporize and the engine will stop running. This phenomenon is known as vapor lock. Once the carburetor cools down, the engine will run again. If you can put 200 km on the engine without issue, you have nothing to worry about.
