My son and I are looking to do IAM or RoSPA (maybe both, in time).

Undecided which one to go for / start with first.

Is one considered superior to the other?

Is one considered harder / more advanced than the other?

IAM have a price of £175 advertised online, can't seem to find a price for RoSPA, anyone know what it is?

Is one more widely recognised by insurance companies than the other?

Are there any other courses, other than these two, that I have overlooked?

Anything else I should know / what to expect / advice / tips? All input welcome / general chat about advanced rider training.

Local IAM groups seem more active and available, both in terms of course delivery and social activity. If you're into that kind of thing.

I believe they come in a range of attractive colours too

Read the Police Riders handbook before you lay out coffee and petrol money for some bearded, carpet loafer sporting fkwit to criticise your riding.

As a current IAM group (LAM London)member and former observer Yes Roadcraft (police RIDERS version) is a good start but surprisingly highway code and roads signs book are also a good pre ride read
Yellow jacket fine but don't consider the polite version that for tarts not riders

yeah - also the IAM is a dedicated road safety organisation, whereas ROSPA's work covers all sorts of other things, like safety at work etc. etc. ROSPA's (ROADAR) stuff is probably about 5% of what it does - maybe less (?). This can mean local groups don't always get the same level of support from the centre compared to IAM. I think I'm right in saying that IAM have more resources for both observers and associates, and for the local groups themselves.

ROSPA has a three yearly retest for members - this isn't the case with IAM.

It is possible and highly regular, to go through life without joining a club.

If you have difficulty making friends, then perhaps joining a self-help activist group such as IAM or ROSPA may be something to try.

There's also online dating to try.

And, apparently, there are lots of 'Ugly women who like secks' out there too.

Ok a lot of useful information given here and pointing strongly towards IAM.

I'll look there first and see how we get on.

Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Are there really?! I'll take this onboard. Where should I start looking first? I've not met any to my knowledge. I'm lead to believe that women don't like secks Thinking

Very Happy

I don't know where to find those women but a good place to start would be to click on one of the ad banners.

I hope this helps. Laughing

The thing about RoSPA retesting you every three years is supposed to a good thing, incidentally; ie, to keep your skills up to date.

Personally I looked at both organisations a while ago when I was after some advanced training. They looked like much of a muchness to me and I made contact with both. IAM never bothered to got called me back whereas RoSPA did - told me all I needed to know, really. In all honesty I expect these outfits are basically as good as the local organisations happen to be in your particular area.

Well for me it's mostly about insurance discount (and bragging rights).

Also wouldn't mind volunteering for the Blood Bikes at some point in the future when things quieten down at work.

I take the point about keeping the skill levels up every 3 years on RoSPA but I think you'd retain most of the information you learn on these courses over the years, even if you fall out of the habit of using it daily. So it's more on the rider to keep those skills in practice and good habits in place rather than having to go back every 3 years and 're-learn' everything you already know.

Would you say the same if my bike was 1bhp more than yours?

Or if my willy was 1cm longer than yours but I had ED and was completely incapable of pleasuring a woman?

Let's face it - life is just one big willy measuring competition.

That is, to say, a big competition on measuring willies.

Not a competition on measuring big willies.

WILLY!!!

Well certainly don't use that as a reason. You'll find that yes there are some firms which IAM and RoSPA will tell you provide a nominal discount, but what they don't tell you is that those same forms will charge you a substantially higher premium than the usual suspects.

Try entering your details into confused.com or the meerkat one, and try the effect of ticking/unticking the box which asks about any advanced riding qualifications... I can guarantee it won't alter your top ten cheapest quotes.

Sorry to hear about the ED.

It doesn't end there.

Got ED, PE and micropenis syndrome.

Might explain why I can't find any ladies to have secks with. Thinking

You poor cunt you need all the help you can get. She will get wetter than an otter's pocket if you get forklift certified instead though.

Done that!

HGV Class 1

PSV

Motorcycle

Category G

Hiab

ADR

No matter what I do she remains drier than a nun's gash.

Only things left to try are IAM/RoSPA, category H and maybe pilot's license.

If that doesn't get her dripping with excitement, I'm fresh out of ideas!

At that level there's still a chance of redemption. It's when it get's to drier than an Arab's bathmat that you know you're doomed.

Maybe you're getting this all wrong. You should buy a Harley and join your local HOG chapter. They have this special dating app calld grindr.

I carried out the IAM refresher training and advanced rider test five years ago, it sharpened me up a bit, I had been riding for about 45 years, had never recieved any training, just wobbled round a test and managed to stop without falling off to get my licence decades ago.
It improved my positioning, distances and observations, so that was ok, the actual local organisation was all rather condescending and not really my cup of tea.

You will get benefit from the training, get a bit of paper for your insurance and be a safer rider, so good luck whatever you do.

Not that I would at all advocate telling fibs to insurers to get cheaper premiums, when the ripoff merchant bastards fleece you at every opportunity... but Ive been putting that Im IAM qualified on my insurance every year for the past decade or so, and never once been asked for proof of this.

I technically am, my blue light training grants me IAM membership without needing to do any assessment rides/tests. Just send them a copy of my qualification and cough up the membership fees. Which Ive not done because theres no point.

Do with that information as you will. Razz
