My bandit's suspension is completely blown out. Very soft and bouncy; I can bottom out the front just by letting off the gas while cruising. The bike is near proper sag with no rider. I weigh 130lb/59kg and it is really sketchy to ride.

To fix the rear, I have bought a 2008 GSXR1k shock for $40. I have seen many posts mentioning that it is one of the easiest and most cost effective shock upgrades for the Mk1s. However, I have not been able to find a good guide with exactly my combo. I have seen posts on Mk1 1200s, and Mk1 600s using other OEM shocks, but not specifically a Mk1 600 with a K7-8 GSXR1k shock.

I am aware that the shock is slightly longer than the stock one, which will result in a 30-40mm taller rear end. I know that to make it fit, you need to trim the battery box plastics and space the dogbones a bit with washers. But does anyone here have experience with this swap and have any advice or tips?

For the front, I will be using Holeshot's progressive spring kit, plus 12.5wt or 15wt oil, and I also picked up some preload-adjustable fork caps.

Thanks all in advance!

I fitted a '06 GSXR shock to my SV650 and I also put it different length dog bones do lower the height so the rear didn't raise so much with the new shock. I think it's worth doing, 40mm is quite a big change.

Hi

I bought a YSS shock for my 2002 600s for a similar problem , although I generally ride 2 up and I got the spring set for the two of us , it's made a great difference cost about 200/250 - well worth it.
