isn't the fuelling on the 09 more like a switch than a throttle or have they finally sorted that?

Even the original first gen MT09 had three throttle modes. I kept mine in Mode 2 most of the time which was fine. I never
had any traction control, just basic ABS. There's a few really early ones that don't even have ABS. There was a free recall
for a re flash within the first year of my ownership which allegedly tweaked the fuelling a bit not that I particularly noticed much
change. I came to it from a 650 twin, it felt smooth to me. I don't see what the fuss is? It's a quick, lightweight, almost 900cc
3 cylinder bike with loads of torque and about 115 ponies, if you are ham fisted with the throttle then it's got plenty of
go with a sudden surge of acceleration to shit you up a bit. It's just that it pulls hard in more or less any gear and at more
or less any revs. The engines have stood the test of time a bit now and are known to be pretty reliable considering
how most of these bikes get ridden.

My 2016 had a Wiz performance ECU flash and the throttle was not an issue. Unsure if the throttle response was modified in that flash, I am also aware that the 2016 was revised over the original. But in any case it would not put me off buying another.

Superb bikes.

As for usd forks, I'm sure an engineer once told me that actually that's the best design, but back in the day seals and rubber were far worse. Hence ... forks.

Isn't it the old "unsprung weight" argument? USD forks have less "stuff" attached to the wheel.

USD forks have a lot less lever effect on the thinner stantion than RWU stantions, reducing stiction.

Would the main downside of USD forks be seal failure? i.e. old skool forks have the assistance of gravity to keep some of the oil in instead of pissing out vaguely in the area your brakes are.

OP is clearly in cloud cuckoo land with his list of demands against budget, at £5k you'd be looking at a 7 year old Street Triple with 25k miles on it, and even that doesn't have much in the way of electronics aids (does have USD forks though)

Was you last bike not insured then, how come the payout can't buy something equivalanet to what you had previously?

I suspect that it was on finance and not fully paid for. The sum in question is whats left from the payout
after the finance was paid off. Could be wrong though.

OP is a know-nothing snobby prick.

Recycled after 10 years lol. I just sold this at 19 years old and 121k miles on the clock.

Nope. Just tune a little CO2 emission settings and the throttle gets great.

The only reason I've got XSR now it has a lot of extras and looks better then MT09.

I read that ‘backlit switchgear’ is a feature these days. Is that really something riders need?

Haven't needed it for 100 years why should it be needed now?

Oh, not essential for riding but a great help diagnosing faults.
