Well I always felt the power of my old Honda Rebel... for the most part, sufficient to my needs. The Duke/Husky proposes roughly the same power but with a considerable weight saving. I deem them at the very least interesting Smile A brief test ride is neither here nor there, one would need to live several months with the animal to assess its worth Very Happy

The reaction of the muggles is somewhat discordant. On the one hand a generally favourable reaction, especially for the price and on the other I'm sure my wife will in find some way to disapprove of a smaller, lighter less powerful bike!

Just explain that it was like when she started riding you. She'll get used to it despite the initial disappointment.

I've come to the conclusion it's a no win situation with women. The best you can do is keep the money rolling in and weather the withering gaze.

Shit just got real Smile

Only two things give away it's not a brand new bike the odometer and some light scuff marks round the ignition barrel. Nice touch: after a wash the dealer treated the bike to some ACF50. Also got a bonus box to go through with all the OEM parts that got swapped.

Apparently I now have to sell the XSR and buy the wife a new cooker from the profits. I think I got off lightly Shifty Unfortunately I can't sell it just yet as the old fella wants to go for a spin on it first Very Happy

I spent a lot of time I got really lucky tuning the XSR exhaust - louder than stock but not unreasonable. While mine turned out as a '70s porn theme I'd imagine your bike will be more like Ride of the Valkyries from Apocalypse Now Laughing

As for the 401 while it's had the cat delete treatment it's still the stock silencer. I haven't ridden anywhere yet but started it up to move it about and erm, it's quiet Sad I've ordered up the link pipe required to allow fitting of a generic slip-on so I can go through what I have in the shed but I'm not holding out much hope.

My opinion on this is always the same: Multiple used bikes are better than one new one.

I'd always get more joy from 6+ interesting used bikes than 2 new ones.

If I really was buying new? I'd buy brand new, I know how I treat demo bikes at dealerships. Absolutely no guarantee that it's not ex demo or that it's been properly broken in, bad break in could show it's head in 10k when it starts burning oil.

A car would be different, part used all the way if I needed something modern for some reason (can't imagine why).

There wasn't a demo model available at Fowlers when I ordered my MT10, Yamaha were only releasing stock to
confirmed orders with a significant deposit made, even to major bike shops like Fowlers. 7 months later when it arrived
they still never had a demo bike, mine was the third 2nd gen MT10 they had through their workshop, the first was an SP
model and the second was a Cyan Storm coloured model which arrived from Yamaha UK couple of days before mine did.
I had their very first all black one. It was never a demo bike. I can be 1000% certain of that. For me the 3 years MOT
free are a bonus, two years yamaha warranty, two years full RAC cover and the knowledge that apart from 1 mile
after PDI and 2 miles on first service, every other mile has been done by me. They're still a rare sight on the roads and
I've had a surprising amount of people asking me about it when I've been fuelling up or sat at a pub somewhere.
I've yet to see another when I've either been out on mine or out in the car. I appreciate it's terrific ugliness may be a
contributing factor as is it's ability to consume petrol at an astonishing rate. As expensive as it was I'm very glad
I bought it, it's a great bike.

I can't help but think 3 years free mot are slightly irrelevant when you're chucking them north of ten grand Laughing

I must admit though, I do like an ugly jagged style bike in all black, it's like "If you're going for an alien cruiser, go for a stealth one, commit to it"

They don't give you free MOTs, all new vehicles (possibly not including HGVs) are exempt from the MOT system for the first 3 years.

I still look back at it when I walk away from it. Possibly in disbelief. Shocked
