This will sound a really daft mistake, but I've figured it out. First of all, according to the manual, you're meant to check this without the dust covers, any shims or the footrest brackets.
So when Haynes tell you move the swingarm to the right, you're meant to push the bolt as well
I didn't get what they were after until I looked online at a service manual, which explained it differently. The point of doing this is to check that both spacers don't protrude more than .9mm combined. Haynes's way of doing this is to hold everything flush on the right, while pushing the arm to the right. You then see how much the gap is between the bush and the spacer on the left. Of course, you'll have to push the bolt flush with the spacer to get an accurate reading. |
