I have been tattooed for over 50 years now but in my day most artists would not tattoo hands never mind faces but now I am seeing more and more of these inkings. Am I just an old foggy or are these kids ruining there employment, relationship and general lifestyle by tattooing their faces?

They do to stand out.

Its less of a challenge for a witness in an ID parade, which is the only plus.

In todays world to be different doesn't take much work, just a face tattoo, now they are different, just like all the rest.

Yep, once upon a time a dagger with a snake warpped around or an anchore with 'MUM' underneath was enough to stand you out..
.. now you have to up the ante to a face tattoo..

.. whatever Rolling Eyes

I am fine with traditional looking moko, even in white people, and not just because I come from NZ where its a more normal preoccupation.

But I still blanch.

These days I am more likely to take the attitude "its your life, if you want to fuck it up, then you just crack right on, buddy" and keep walking in another direction.
No need to think about that sort of person ever again, with a bit of luck.

I can admire some from an artistic angle but after a decade or so they need going over again and let's face it: tattoos only look good on young, fit people.

face an neck tattoos used to be only spotted on double hard bastards that had been inside for murder etc, most neck and face tattoo owners these days seem to be more interested in telling the story of how they discovered veganism on an ayuasca retreat. Laughing

It's interesting, because there are hidden dynamics in the way your face determines your fate, but then there are methods, ranging from cheap to expensive, to change your face.
Most expensive: plastic surgery - can have good results or bad. You can create an STL file of the jaw you want now, and send it in to a lab with plastic surgeons. Seems to be becoming de rigeur among US TV anchors, to get that strangely misplaced Hapsburg chin look. Just under £20K for both lower and upper jaws.
Cheaper plastic surgery: botox. Never seems to work well.
Even cheaper than plastic surgery: face tattoos. Usually done by men trying to look a bit tougher and rougher. Always regretted later on (I assume) but probably a smarter choice than getting a rough-tough face the Mickey Rourke way.

Cheaper and less regrettable than them all: full-face helmet. You can have a different face for a couple of hours, just because you feel like it. And it's reversible.

Let's face it, we wouldn't have typed a single word on this or any other forum if any of us had the sort of face that could be presented on Youtube or Instagram.

I don't have a problem with face tattoos as a concept. I've just never seen any that look good.

I know that my tattoo guy, who does good work, won't do face tattoos and will only do hand tattoos for long term customers.

So based on this tiny sample size and insufficient data, I'm going to assume that face tattoos look shit because no decent tattoo artists will do them.

It probably doesn't help that anyone can buy a tattooing kit for 50 quid on amazon.

Yesterday I was at the Manchester Ring of Red and not many very pretty young ladies in their early 20's with neck and face tattoos, some quite large. If they had been stick on or temporary tattoos they would have been nice decorations, but knowing that they were permanent made me feel sorry for them.

It just shows someone has been there before and made their mark. I know, I know that most women have history, but you don't want to be reminded of it.

There seems to be a recent trend (at least around where i live) for "star freckles" tattoos, and it really is as daft as it sounds

Mostly women, who don't have freckles, are getting tiny stars tattooed on their faces as though they have freckles

And as a bloke who has a decent naturally freckled skin, (and also fairly heavily tattooed) i'd happily forgoe all on mine, never mind wanting to add more

PS, all my tattoos can be easily covered by a shirt and trousers should i choose to

Tramp Stamp Peeyesdiresistors is the tattoo round the Fatchina.

There's a lass with previous.

And there are many ugly Blurts out there that need a tattoo to tidy things up.
