Very Happy Very Happy
Today i brought my first bike, well my dad did but hey YAY!
Pick it up on the 13th November, which is after my tests so i should be able to ride it back.

Anyways its a RVF400, Red/white/blue.
Has done around 6000miles on the clock, also has MPH clocks. At the moment it has an aftermarket exhaust but there going to take it off and put the orginal back on. By the way brought from DK motorcycles. There are a few bad bits i must be honest, stratchs here and there, but a rather big one on the right lower fairing. These i dont really mind, as its my first bike, after a few months when im a little more confident ill fix them up.

Picture below,
See ya around A very happy Andy Very Happy Thumbs Up

Looks nice, very nice. Just be very very careful with it as your first bike and not to drop it or crash it. Thumbs Up

Are they including the after market can with it as well as the standard one yeah?

Also worth noting don't count on riding it back on 13th November, most people do not pass first time so it's more likely that you can't ride it.

Yeah it is, it's a long story but in a short run. My dad did not want to buy private as he does not know the bike market, so instead we brought from a dealership.

I've had a datatag fitted, also there stripping the bike down and cleaning everything for me. MOT 12months blar blar oh and a warrently for 3months.

I actually asked the chap can i have the after market exhaust he goes "well were going to put the original one on back for you as other wise its not road legal", so might just ask for it Thumbs Up Also thanks for the advice i've got a few people lined up to ride it back for me, but i'm trying to use it as a... If you pass look what you get to have fun on Very Happy

Did you try doing a Google search before going there? Confused Shocked

I would expect they got the standard can for it when they bought it, as it is fairly normally for any standard parts which have been replaced to also be included in the sale. Reckon that if you ask them now you've done the deal (and given them money) they won't let you have it, in the same way they wouldn't throw anything else in if you asked them for it now.

Having the bike waiting for you at home will add additional pressure to doing your test but hopefully it'll be okay. Thumbs Up

Nearly four grand seems a hell of alot of money to pay for a 400, especially to be used as a first bike.

Your dad's view makes sense, but surely you could have found a bike for less than what you did? If you're not taking your test for over a month, that would have given you plenty of time to wait for the right bike to come up. I would hardly dare ride such an expensive bike with my little experience!

Your father must have alot of spare cash... Hope you enjoy it though! Thumbs Up

Nice bike but seems you payed way too much for it, my mate just sold his which is basically the same and probably better for almost a grand less Confused . Just make sure you get your money's worth out of it (keep it for quite a while) and don't come of it as when you come to sell you are going to loose sh*t loads of money.

Looks nice anyway, how much is your insurance going to be as i was looking at one but now have decided to go for a cheap fzr600 i've seen.

Blimey that is a lot of money for a bike that is nearly 10 years old and an import. I thought it would be a couple of years old at most! You know you could get something like a brand new SV650 or bandit for that kind of money. All it would need is a restrictor kit.

How are you the 1st owner in the log book? Does that mean it has never been registered in the UK up until now? Was it brought in by someone moving to this country and flogged on?

Insurance will be around the £800 mark I'd expect, cost me slightly over a grand on a ZX6R TPFT at 17.

Did you try to haggle with them at all?

Is it me or does £3799 for a 9 year old 400 seem alot of money?

I'm thinking you could buy a decent GSXR600SRAD and get insured on it, or 3 VFR400's for that much?

Looks great, doesn't matter what you paid mate, long as you like it. If we all went round worrying about how much to pay would anyone ever buy anything i wonder? Enjoy the machine but please be careful-especially around the time that your confidence increases but your experience has not caught up Shocked . Go for it

Something is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it, yes he could have with shopping around found a cheaper one but he pleased with it which is one the main objectives when you buy something. As long as it doesn't fail or something similar there isn't a problem as he will have got what he paid for.

I sort of agree it doesn't matter how much you pay and to be fairly frank if you buy anying with an engine it tends to cost you a lot of money like my Alfa GTV which I kept for 18 months and sold for £6k less than I paid for it having spent near on £2k maintaining it - last of the real Alfa's. Like anything Italian they look & go wonderfully (when they are not broken down) but it'll cost you a fortune.....but its worth it Very Happy

Before anyone says anything I know a Honda is not Italian!

Keep it for a while and it doesn't really matter!

I can understand i (well my dad) paid a little more than normal for it but i just love it. I sat on it and would not get off for a good 20min's or so Razz I plan to keep it for a while also Thumbs Up

Hey this is my first bike, think of when i come to buy the 2nd Shocked lol Laughing Best not think that far ahead yet.

Thanks again for all the comments,
Andy

Nah, that isn't an Alfa problem, that is the UK Alfa dealers. Find a specialist with experience and the bills will be less than half as much, plus far less often as well.

All the best

Keith

PS - The GTV is not a real Alfa, it is based on the Fiat Tipo platform.
