While takeing a trip to the new maplin store near home I was inspired by their affordable bullet-cam weather proof cameras. The staff there were happy for me to take in my camcorder and see if they could get it working with the camera as an input.

I notice a lot of these cameras need a DC power supply. I'm guessing if that happens to be 12v DC I'm on a winner.

Bottom line I'd like a small weather proof camera that does standard RF out picture and is suitable for a bike.

Anyone do this kind of thing and have any recommendations?

Have a look here:
https://www.rfconcepts.co.uk/bullet_camera_colour.htm

They come highly recommended by a few people I've spoken to (even though their website is nigh on impossible to navigate in any sensible manner and looks like it was designed by a three year old with crayons!)

I've got the RF concepts camera and it's grand.

As far as power supply goes, you can get a battery holder from maplins that takes 8 x AA batteries - there's your 12v and you'll get about 8 hours use from that. Easier to move about if it's not all wired into your bike.

Used it to shoot the likes of this - https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=19505

I'll check that site silver, and thanks bendy, I love watching that type of footage.

Silver, that is the camera I was looking at in maplin, it certainly seems to be up to the job. I probably would hook it up to a battery pack, or take this an excuse to fit a ciggy lighter on my bike.

Have a look at this bloke's site I found. He has described how he set up the camera in detail:

And, his results (which seem very good!):

The only important thing you've got to check is that your camcorder/dv walkman has an AV-in capacity - the majority of them don't cos of weird import restrictions.

I did toy with the idea of a ciggy lighter plug but as it gets stuck on lots of people's bikes, the battery pack was the way to go for me. The camera's actually small enough that you can get it inside your lid if the fit's not too tight (it works with one of mine and not the other), but usually we just wrap it in a bit of foam pipe insulation and gaffa tape it somewhere. Hi

We have one like that as well. Works well:-

https://www.alfa-pages.co.uk/TempPicture/Videos/

We have a battery pack taking 8 x AA batteries, which is 12V DC, but the battery attachment is a standard 9V clip and we have been told that they are not that sensitive to voltage (cannot remember the exact figures, but it was quoted to work on anyfrom something like 8V to 15V).

The only real problem is getting the lead to stay in place on the camera. Gaffer tape tends to be required to avoid drop outs.

All the best

Keith

Thanks for all this. This is a tight time of the year for my wallet, but is definitely something I'll be doing.

Also, if there is a God, I'll get stopped by a patrol car for speeding one day while my footage shows I wasn't Laughing

Or, more likely, you'll get stopped for doing (say) 80mph in a 60mph only for them to discover that you had been doing 120mph two minutes earlier, when they see the tape! Mad
