Every once in a weekend I can’t be bothered to wet shave (and consequently come Monday morning I’ll get the best shave) but if I want to leave the house that weekend it’s not a good look for me. I’ve wondered whether a modern electric razor might be a fine thing to have. Ideally cordless and wettable but I’ve been surprised at the prices of some. Any recommendations?

I've spent many years with various stages of grooming from wet shaved head to can't even be bothered with doing anything about my pisspoor moustache.

Still with clippers when I'm getting annoyed with the length and wet shave if I want posh.

Never used a electric shaver so can't advise.

I just trim the beard every 2/3 weeks and i'm done. Main reason I grew it.

Skull-shaving the head though is 5 mins every 2 days. Thought i'd have gone proper bald by now.

They're called 'shavers'. Razz
(Phillips make an electric 'razor' type thing, which uses he same sort of 'foil' technology that electric shavers use. One Blade. I didn't like the one I bought.)

Shavers use two distinct systems.
One system uses a rotating blade under a slotted foil.
The other uses a reciprocating blade under a mesh foil.

The hair get slashed off by the moving blades, if they manage to poke through the holes/slots in the foil.

I have used Remington reciprocal and now have a Braun reciprocal. Mixed views.
They both 'shave', like the side of the tin suggested but never as close or as comfortable as a Gillette, (with foam and water.)
Electric shavers can cause som sensitivity due to the fact that they are not slicing hair like a razor.
A blunt razor produces the same sort of 'feel'.

A good shaver will set you back a few quid but they may prove convenient. And if you prefer to sport that Hobbo/Cooncil Estate look then they are just the ticket.

A razor will shave any hair type. Electric shavers are not as universal. Some folk believe that one type of foil shaves closer than the other.

I think that the reciprocal type is simpler to maintain. IMHO.

I've always used a Philishave 3 head razor. My present one is a rechargable jobby that you can use in the shower. Must be 10 years old and I've replaced the cutters a couple of times.

Does what it says on the tin.

Owned various from cheap to expensive. My daily is now a Oneblade because I don't need a perfect shave every day and it is good enough for me. I find super close electric shavers irritate my skin anyway and this doesn't.

My cheap chinese shaver is waterproof, usb recharge with 1 hour usage. Works great but takes longer on 3 day+ head-hair growth.

Can’t be any worse than Harry’s Razors. Harry must spend all his money on marketing because the blades are either blunt or badly positioned, I’m not sure which. Razor-burn hell anyhow.

When i can be arsed to shave
I have a Philishave series 3000 rechargeble li-ion 3 head wet or dry job
it cost mebbe £40 IIRC? wasn't very expensive though

It shaves pretty damn good for a leccy one and even removes a weeks worth of neglected beard without fuss or snagging as I trim around the van dyke
it has a pop up trimmer too

I use a hair clipper to remove the bulk of the hair on my Van Dyke then Finnish with foam and a Gillette.

I have to admit, that's the first time I've seen one's cock and balls called a van dyke.

I'll use it in future. Thumbs Up

What ?
How very dare you suggest I use a vibrating device in close proximity
to my genitalia!!
How could anybody think of committing such a lewd act for what one can only imagine as some tawdry, inexpensive sexual arousal?

I know people will point out the accident I had with a vacuum cleaner hose in the shower cubicle that time.
but that was just that, an accident born out of my strong belief in health and cleanliness nothing more.

i shave once a week, maybe once every two weeks. I couldnt care. But the growth is such that the foil rotating electric shavers dont work, or take an absolute age. The hair is too long and bends out of the way instead of going through the foil to be cut.

Ive found the oneblade doodah works for me...will cut longish beard hair on first stroke. Takes about 2 minutes to buzz it all off every two weeks or so. Doesnt leave you with a face like a baby..more like "you shaved this morning and now its 8pm". but thats good enough for me.

If I'm particularly time rich, I can always do it again with a nice proper 3 /4/5/6/19 blade razor once Ive brought it down to short with the oneblade.

Thanks all. Since I won’t be shaving long or unruly hair I’d read that foil would be more suitable than rotary. I went for a Braun Series 6 which, without the unnecessary ‘cleaning station,’ currently costs £89.99 at Boots, although the shelf was still showing the daft full price. I might have got an extra tenner off because the packaging was knackered but I’m not sure that was the reason.

https://www.boots.com/braun-series-6-60-b1200s-electric-shaver-for-men-10283672

I then had to get a two-pin adapter to charge it.

It’s done a good, quick job on a day’s beard growth. I can feel some stubble remaining but it doesn’t show. Used dry there’s just a little razor burn. I’m pleased with it although I wouldn’t say electric shavers have progressed that much since I last used one regularly.

Get yersel a wee bottle of shaver/trimmer/clipper oil.
It will last a lifetime.
The head needs to be washed to remove clag which removes any lube from the cutter things.
A dot of oil on the foil and run for a second will prevent unnecessary foil and blade wear. And maintain cutter speed.

It may simply be due to the way the hair is chopped.
Rotary blades shear like scissors which may pull hair. Snowflakes may wince.
The side-2-side blade chops straight cross the hair.

Some folk still get a numbing due to the cutters jabbing the hair nerve. Nerves shut down if pestered too much.

Plus for the Bush and the Pop-Up.
