Car tyre question

Is it possible to replace the whole tyre valve without special tools? I don't want to start it if I'm going to end up having to take it to a tyre shop to do anyway.

If possible,best method please?

You really need to take the tyre off the rim.
So special tools.

The valve is pulled through from the inside to the outside, so tyre off I'm afraid.

Bodging is not recommended.

A decent tyre shop will do it for a packet of Tunnocks Tea Cakes. Maybe caramel logs too.

Might ba possible to get at it by pushing the bead into the well. Butt.... you need to break the bead. Bastirt.

Just tyre irons?

Cut the old valve baboon's ass into pieces that the valve can be removed. Push or pull the new one through. Just a bit of lubricant on the stem and base.

You can push the valve through with some force using a punch from the inside of the wheel so long as the diameter is right, pushing upon the metal surface in the hole inside.

Before the garages had tyre fitting machines, breaking the bead was done using a lump hammer and a 'jemmy' bar along with body weight by standing on the tyre as you progressively moved around the rim hitting the bead till it gave way. Once broken there is just enough room to to get your fingers into the space and remove the previously cut off valve and insert a new one. Hint, use washing up liquid to help the new valve seat and around the bead to do the same when inflating. This is hard work and I wouldn't recommend it on Ally Rims but it is how it used to be done and it works.

I have managed to do it by breaking the bead using a bench vice and then swearing at it a lot.

These days I think I'd just pay some other poor fucker to do it.
