Normally when I get a new vehicle I tax it and don't care if it's mid month,

For the bike however for the first time it is currently on SORN.

I want to tax it from April 1st as won't be out this weekend and it's unlikely I'll get out on 30th.

When I try to tax it it says from March 1st, do I have to wait till April 1st to start it on the 1st or can I do it in advance so many days ahead, if so how many days?

Tax it online from midnight 01 April.
It always defaults to the first day of the current month.

DVLA are not flexible. Civil Service. What would you expect form those kunts?

You can tax it for 6 or 12 month. Then cancel before the end of any month and get the unused tax rebated.
Bstards send a Postal Order/Giro with the refund.

Just to inconvenience you more.

nah I'll keep it taxed, had a great February this year and could easily have been out had I had tax and an mot.

The lack of MOT being the main issue, got to September last year, needed a new rear tyre, hated having the MOT towards the end of the main riding season, opted to SORN and MOT in Spring. Fast forward to spring, tried to go for MOT, breakdown en-route, limp home, resolve issue, book new MOT without a test ride due to no MOT or tax. Lots of unnecessary stress.

Easier to keep it taxed and enjoy those few winter days that you can get out.
