Is an EML light on a bike scoot an MOT fail?

As title
my YBR guys Forza 125 has shit the bed big time and he wants to take His
backup Honda SH125 for MOT but he tells me the eml lighty is on

Is this an insta fail for a bike/scoot like it is on a car?

Unless I've missed it the manual doesn't even acknowledge the existence of the engine management light. If you have tell-tales for indicators, high beam they need to work but that's about it.

Not sure why you'd do this, when the bike MOT doesn't cover the appearance (or otherwise) of the engine management light Rolling Eyes

Eh? Obviously you'd do it for peace of mind, knowing the engine is fine as otherwise the light would be on.

As an eml light is supposed to come on breifly at ignition on
then go out shortly after, I'd guess an MOT tester might fail it
as non operational like say a high beam warning light?

It's a fail for cars (comes under "nuisance" for some reason) but is not mentioned at all in the motorcycle manual for MOT testers, and I don't see any basis for a bike being refused an MOT because of it. You can search for it here:

As it's not mentioned for a bike then the lack of self test at ignition wouldn't be a problem. I would just present it as is, personally, and then stick a code reader on it later.

Chances are it's some poxy exhaust sensor that's out of whack or something equally not threatening to the continued existence of the engine, and it would probably run perfectly well for years in the same state.
