I have a guy wants to buy a Honda Forza 125 scooter engine I have
and he lives in Eastern Holland near the German border.

This is a new situation for me and I've little clue on how to go about
getting a price other than weighing the thing on the bathroom scales
plus I do have a small pallet I can strap it to

Anyone have any tips and tricks on how to go about it and make it viable?

TIA

You really need to speak to MCW.

Looked/found his profile but see he hasn't posted since 2017

I did look at few pallet delivery sites but get so far through the menus then see they're asking for commercial licenses VAT numbers and stuff.

Some background
My YBR guy who does deliveroo for living bought this forza last year
and was told it just had very low mileage engine fitted
and the bodging retards who do his intown servicing did a shabby job of fitting and
setting it up.
The ballsups they've done to his scoots over the last few years would
be a story in itself but the idiot keeps going back!
( they charge him £40 to get the 'special computer' to read the fault codes
when I do it for free and my 'special computer' could be with feckin paper clip)
Anyway, after I sorted it for him and told to find a decent intown mechanic
he loved it and racked up the miles.

I noticed his 'mechanics' had broken an exhaust stud ages ago but he carried on regardless until recently when the noise got so bad he panicked and thought
the engine was dying and went and bought another engine and asked me to fit it for him

As I stripped it down ready to drop the lump I ran the engine and made a video.
I couldn't detect any obvious nastyness other than the exhaust leak but carried on
as instructed and he told me to keep the old engine and do what I wanted with it

Fair enough I'll mebbe get a few bob for it I thought and bunged it on Gumtree
and described it as honestly as I could
Now I have a guy in Holland call me whose forza has a broken crank interested
and asking how much for it to be delivered

Note how his mechanics figured it didn't need two bolts on the injector

If he wants it badly get him to organise the shipping. You will just offer to pack it in/on a sturdy box/pallet tell him the weight and dims that's it.
Simce he will be the 'importer' he will have to deal with any fall-out.

I occassionally have to return small items to Holland for repair/return and have to make up 'commercial invoices' and all sorts of nonsense. If you were to ask a dozen different couriers you'd get a dozen different answers.

PS How about you stick it on ebay and he buys it using the 'Global Shipping Program' then you only have to ship to a depot in Stafford or somewhere like.

Tell him the shipping terms are Ex-Works. This means all you need to do is to pack the goods, and as you've suggested for an weighty item like an engine a mini Pallet is a good idea. Once that's done you tell him the weight & dimensions, the pick up address & times the goods are available to collect and if there are any restrictions, i.e. you're a private individual and as such you don't have a fork lift truck or anything like that.

As it is an engine you might find his freight forwarder will stipulate a couple a conditions, such as cleanliness or drained of fluids to protect their other cargo, but that's no hardship.

Lastly be meticulous with your paperwork. State your price, currency, shipping terms and anything else that could be open to interpretation in unambiguous terms. If in doubt ask his nominated freight forwarder. Their the ones who have to deal with the fallout when shipping goes wrong and in my (commercial) experience, freight forwarders are usually very helpful because they know the cr*p usually lands back on their desks.

Collection only.

That's how you go about it. Wink

Keep it simple. Collection only.

Thanks, some useful tips so far.
I can secure it to the small pallet the replacement came on and
as suggested, would prefer for someone to come and take it away
and not get sucked down a rabbit hole.

I'll measure the pallet and weigh both that and the engine today
and be able give overall LxWxH dimensions but if I have to start knocking up stackable shipping boxes and jumping through hoops
that could get time consuming.

I was wondering how an item on Bristol Gumtree came to the attention of someone in eastern Holland but that's that interweb for ya eh?

It smells quite like a scam.

How do they want to send payment?

Do couriers have "cash on pickup" like deliver has CoD?

I did wonder myself but he's only making inquiries at this stage
and it aint going anywhere until I have the dosh firmly in my account/pocket.
Nobby put me on to MCW who gave me some tips and advice
and its not looking like it would be an easy or economical project.
as the cost could easily surpass its value.
Some quotes looked good until I was asked for VAT numbers and
saw it had to be in a stackable pallet/box form which adds complexity
time and cost.

As advised above I would prefer someone turn up, press folding money in my hand and bung it in the back of a car or van and bugger off.

I did get a quote from Shiply for £1069, Shocked

Yes, I've often done this to repost an item near the top again

nuffin dodgy guv, it ain't not nicked nor nuffin honest

just been chatting to the guy via whatsapp and he's asking me
if I could box it up cos that gets cheaper quotes than an open pallet

There's also the question of how to organise the payment
to satisfy both parties security concerns

TBH its all bit of a faff but if he pays for a box I'll do it
