Not illuminating with either front lever nor rear pedal.

It's not the bulb.

Any ideas?

Or ground connection. Or wiring. Or connectors.

Get your multimeter out and get testing.

I'd normally be blaming the earth but you aren't saying the rear light isn't working entirely.

If it is, the loom between the middle of the bbike and the rear light.

Always assuming that you have actually checked that the bulb is working by unpluging the brake light from the subframe and checking that there is actually continuity through it to earth.

Sorry guys I should have said - I hadn't checked the fuses but I had checked what they all do online before posting this and as none of them specify for brake lights, I assumed the brake lights must be on a shared fuse (maybe with the tail light?), and seeing as everything else seems to be working fine I had assumed that mustn't be the case.

Was on the way out to the footie when I posted and hadn't had time to look into it thoroughly before I went, although I did swap the bulb for a brand new one quickly before I left and still no joy, was hoping for a silver bullet when I got back, alas, good advice where to start looking nonetheless.

Tail light working so I had also assumed ground was out of the equation also.

Turns out both switches had corroded and weren't making a connection, and the rear switch needed adjusting as it wasn't pulling hard enough on the switch spring anyway. Bit of WD40 and some buggering around got the rear one working but still no joy from the front so I've stripped it and roughed up the contact areas, going to leave it to soak overnight and hope for the best. Failing that, new switch.

I appreciate the help. As both weren't working I'd assumed switches were probably fine as chances of BOTH being broken/corroded at the same time slim?

I did!

Thanks for asking.

Initially it was very temperamental despite roughing up the contact areas but I think there was a load of rust flakes swimming in WD40 potentially getting between the contacts so disassembled the switch, cleaned and dried it and removed any debris. Works fine now.
