The bike runs beautifully but the radiator fan comes on very early and then never goes off. Even with the temp gauge needle in the notch at the start of gauge the fan runs continually. The gauge needle rarely gets out of the notch even riding hard on hot days.
What do you think is the problem?

The temp sensor the fan is attached to.

Fan switch is usually seperate to the temperature sender. It also usually has a single wire which connects the fan to earth when it reaches a low enough resistance. A short circuit anywhere on that wire will cause the fan to come on.

So I'd suggest either a faulty fan switch or a trapped/broken/damaged wire shorting to the chassis.

Outside possability of it being low on coolant. The fan switch is usually lower down than the temp sender. It is possible the temp sender is not immersed in coolant but the fan switch is and that your bike is actually overheating and the fan's doing its best to sort it out.

Almost identical engine to the VF500F. They do run very hot but once the bike is moving, the fan should eventually turn off. The fan switches can give trouble. It is located on the left hand side radiator tank facing towards the rear. If the fan is never turning off then I would agree the fan switch is sticking and needs changing. You can get these in various temperature ratings btw but probably best sticking with whatever is stamped into the brass. Some mod the bikes to put a manual switch in so they can run the fan for longer.
