Hi this is my first post here I just purchased this 2004 GSXR 1000 with the mat mladin themed paint job(not sure if this makes it more valuable and want to know more about this). Basically it has a bad battery so I am trying to start it by hooking it up with jumper cables to my car. The old owner did this and showed me videos of it working fine and running when he did this. When I turn the key nothing happens at all, No display changes, everything stays dark. I tested the ignition plug with a multimeter and it seems to be working properly. I am going to be ordering a new battery soon but I have a feeling it will not fix the problem.

PS one of the large (36 pin i think) connections right beside the fuse box was wet when I pulled it up so that might have something to do with it. How would I go about testing the different parts with a multimeter to diagnose the problem? I attached picture of wet connection.

So bike is totally dead, nothing at all working when hooked up to power? No lights, no clicks?

When you say you tested the ignition plug with a multimeter, do you mean you checked there was power being supplied to the ignition switch and power getting through it in the on position?

Start simple. Make sure the kill switch isn't in the stop position (don't be cross, it happens all the time). Although you should still have dash lights. Also make sure you're connecting your jump start the right way round with regard to polarity.

If you have power at the ignition key switch and power after it, next stop is the fuse box, that would be the next logical thing to check. Look for blown fuses and check the fuses have power going to them. If people have been habitually jump starting it off a car, there's a fair chance of blown fuses

It's quite likely a fuse has blown, if it was running before it's not going to be anything serious but electrical problems can be tricky to diagnose and need to be careful you aren't damaging something else messing about with limited knowledge.

So many red flags here... Why wasn't it supplied with a battery? That is very suspicious on the part of the seller. The only way you're going to know what's going on is to put a new (fully charged) battery in the bike. Then, as others have said check the fuses.

I don't think the Matt Mladin replica paintwork was an official Suzuki colourscheme, so it's probably an aftermarket paintjob (unless you're in the States and it was an officially supplied one over there). If it's aftermarket it's probably worth a little less than stock. If it's an Official USA one? Who knows? The colonials are quite fickle with stuff like that.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.
