Do you guys wear normal jeans/trousers to go to the shops or for a local trip on your bike or is this too dangerous? I don’t know if I’m being paranoid about it but I only ever wear my motorcycle gear and it’s resulting in me using my bike less than I would orherwise. In Barcelona I saw people riding around in normal clothes all the time.

The context behind this is that only my textile touring trousers now fit me and I can’t afford to buy bigger denim motorcycle jeans at the moment.

How much flesh can you afford to lose if you come off?

You're statistically more likely to have an accident close to home, so it doesn't matter how long or short the trip is.

The question is, do you want to wear normal jeans on your motorbike?

Up to you.

Personally, I wear whatever I feel like and try not to fall off.

I used to wear full leathers 100% of the time as paranoid. These days not so much. I do wear casual clothes with Kevlar lining for short trips around the area. Depends on the weather.

Blue denim affords you some level of protection, but tends to shred when you contact asphalt. I've been off twice when wearing denim jeans, once in 1981, and again in 2016, both times at or over 100 kph. Still got both cheeks Cool. Oddly, the only bone I ever broke in a motorcycle crash (right scapula) was under the protection of an armored leather jacket. I still wear that jacket daily. Just Leather in San Jose used to have a rack of leather jackets that survived crashes. The rashed up leather was priced 2-3 x higher than new leather. Instant street cred for sale, you know.

Just wear whatever the fuck you want, so long as you also wear a helmet.

Full ATGAT warrior? Fine.
Squid in flip-flops? Fine.

Normal legwear for me = kevlar lined jeans with thin kevlar leggings underneath. Comfortable, looks like regular clothing and should give me a few seconds of slide.

These days I wear gear 99% of the time - either textile overtrousers or, if it's hot, kevlar lined jeans.

Very occasionally, if I'm just nipping to the shop down the road (probably won't get above 20, let alone 30!) I'll do it in normal jeans, but still wear gloves/jacket/boots.

When I was a young'un in the 80s, most commuters wouldn't wear bike gear. DMs and a Belstaff jacket was the all you'd usually see. Hardcore bikers wore leather jackets Smile
