FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFK!

Ive a fraction over tightened the rivet link... IE squeezing the plate onto the link. Not the rivet (yet)

I needed to get the job done today, but was fast running out of light and now I have several days of rain Sad

But it took a huge amount of effort to squeeze it on. But I did one last check and found it was a fraction too loose still (calliper tested against the other chain links)
So I gave it one last little squeeze and now Im a fraction too tight and the link is ever so slightly stiff. Sighs......

Is there a way to pull the plate back a little? Im worried if I just jimmy a screwdriver in and wiggle it is going to warp it in all sorts of awful ways.

Any ideas?

Link splitter.

Or just use a screw driver but be careful of the seal....

I got the common cheap splitter kit, its how I squeezed the plate on...

But I cant see how it could be used to pull the plate back or off....

Move it into the middle of a run, grab the chain either side of the link in your hands and flex it sideways a couple of times. Should free off a little. That's how you do bicycle chains when you've pressed the side plate on.

well tried all i could, even tried jimming with a screw driver... sighs. Still not coming off. I managed to loosen it a little. But im wondering as I forgot to put the grease on if the chain lube will soak in enough and do the job fine... And just rivet the damn thing up.

If you haven't rivited it yet you should reallly be able to use the chain splitter to loosen it.

I spent 2 hours trying :/ I gave up... Managed to loosen it a fraction enough... and just decides to rivet it, and hope that lube will get in enough to keep it going for a while... If it seizes ill cut that link off and get a new one. But right now I cant wait till next week for one to replace it right now :/ (im moving)

It shouldn't seize but if it does you probably won't need to worry about replacing it! Shocked

If it takes my leg off.... I wont be! :p

I also learnt last night that the rear wheel assembly on the FZ8 is total and complete utter dogshit....

Trying to get the wheel back on is like solving a rubix cube with one foot while juggling and tap dancing at the same time.

The speedo hub for the ABS needs to be placed on while holding the rear break assembly needs feeding onto the disk, while being held onto some guide rails on the swing arm... All completely loose with no bolts to hold anything anywhere, while the wheel spacer washer on the left side constantly wants to fall out....

Genuinely one of the most frustrating most annoying jobs I've done any my bikes. How the hell do mechanics do this for a living with such insane designs.

Anyway I ran out of light again, but its on now I just need to line up the wheel lock everything in then put the front sprocket cover back on and readjust the gear pedal.... and I should have a bike again.

Removing the calliper from it's mount, putting the wheel in and then putting the calliper back on?

There is no mount... Thats just it... It appears to wedge in between the wheel and swing arm, as part of the abs speedometer hub.

Also my new chain lube smells like strawberry milkshake. What an odd experience.

Bit late to the party ... put the chain in a vice with a couple of nuts over the two pins of the rivet link (already riveted size), tighten vice ... the chain/plates will be held in place while the pins are pushed through Thumbs Up

Surely that will make it tighter.

Was rethinking this, you need to put the nuts either side of the rivet link, otherwise it might push the riveted part of the pin out of the rivet link!

The chain will be held in the vice between the nuts pressing on the back of the links to either side of the rivet link, the pins of the rivet link should then press against the vice on the other side.

When you tighten the vice the rivet link pins will be pushed back through the plate, until the vice hits the rest of the chain that is.

I use this method the other way round to push the rivet link plate on, i.e. the nuts are over the pins of the rivet link on the single plate side and the other side of the chain is against the vice.

When you tighten the vice the nuts press against the rivet plate and squeeze it on, with the pins going inside the nuts.
